I need some reassurance

Hi this is completely new to me and I don't normally do stuff like this but I don't have anyone I can talk to. I'm 27 and have been having problems with my bowels for the past year, I've had blood tests done all come back clear till the last tests I had done which showed low iron count. I have a colonoscopy booked for this Saturday coming, but I've noticed a few other things over the past month, extremely bad back pain, and severe pain in my bum which is preventing me from sitting down. The Dr thought it was hemorrhoids.but when he checked he said it wasn't and seemed confused at to what was wrong with me. I was just wondering if anyone has some reassurance for me or advice. Thank you.

  • Hi there Chlo,

I was in a similar situation 2 years ago, I have the worst bowels for a long time. Just totally inconsistent bowel habits with pain, gas and bloating. I am also 27 and they did bloods which were fine and sent me for a colonoscopy & endoscopy which all were clear and they put it down to an overactive bowel and IBS. You are doing the right thing in regards to the colonoscopy as they can literally see everything in there and would be able to spot any abnormalities.

This might not be helpful but just thought I'd share a little insight into my experience and the good outcome.

You are only 27 so the odds will be in your favor, but at least you are taking action and getting it checked out.

    All the best

  • Hi Bally, thank you for replying! Yes that does put me at ease a bit, just keep getting so nervous and on edge and what it could be. And I know it sounds weird but it annoys me that my blood test results come back clear as in my head I feel like there is something wrong.

How was your colonoscopy? I'm dreading the preparation more than anything

  • From my experience blood tests don't seem to pick up on a lot! But I know you at anxious but you are not alone and can talk to me anytime, you can do anything about it right now, you've already done all the right steps. It's just a waitint that's annoying!

The colonoscopy was fine for me, you will have slight stomach pain as they pump some air as the camera goes in to open up the tubes (bit graphic, soz)

I hade to take this Moviprep stuff which literally gives you explosive diarrhoea but just stay at home, close to a toilet and you will be fine. It doesn't make you feel nauseous or anything like that.

  • Yeah I've got Moviprep to take. Just been reading up about some people's experience with it and freaked me out.

Thanks appreciate the company. I've been asked to be sedated so won't remember any of it. Just want an answer now, been a year and still nothing

  • what kind of horror stories? To be honest the moviprep was a breeze for me.

ah yes they have the conscious sedative to me but it didn't work so I remember ever damn thing

  • A lot of people have said you end up spending hours on the toilet, hate to sound gross but I already have a sore bottom and don't like the idea of spending hours on the loo. Very nervous now :-(

  • HI Chlochlo - I've had that procedure and once the drugs kicked in I just sort of wittered on about god knows what and didn't give a flying fig what they were doing. They were so professional and reassuring and the moviprep experience does not last long! Remember they spend their days inspecting bottoms! x

  • Ah thank you for that, that's relaxed me a little bit. I'm not worried about the procedure as I'm sure I'll be in dream mode. I am more worried about the Moviprep I'm hoping the toilet moments don't last long.

I hope you don't mind me asking did everything turn out ok for you?

    X

  • It was a few years ago now and often they use those procedures to have a good look. I had a very handsome insides apparently! I was eventually diagnosed with bile acid malabsorption which basically means I suffer from chronic diarrhea and stomach ache - it's super sensitive to fats etc.. I take a marvellous medicine every day which makes it manageable. There are SO many things that can cause issues with your bowels. I'm currently prowling this forum as I have been referred to see someone regarding a lump on my neck. Posted my first post this morning to have a bit of a rant and general moan and a groan - I find reading other peoples posts really reassuring that I'm not some neurotic mess!

    xx

  • Yeah its helping me read through other people's posts. I got told that it could be bike acid malabsorption and they gave me a medicine to try to see if it worked but unfortunately didn't do anything.
