BREAST CLINIC APPT TOMORROW

Hello everyone. I am 21. I found a lump a couple of weeks ago in my left breast. The reason I felt around is because I could feel pain/aching when breast was pushed against for example laying on my stomach. I felt the lump just above the nipple. It feels hard and I can not move it around. I still have a constant pain/ache. Also some burning sensation. I have my breast clinic appt tomorrow I am so scared that it is the worst thing possible I am so young and I just have the worst anxiety. I have a needle phobia too which is making it worse as I’m panicking they may need to do further tests and use needles.

  • Hi there

Its good you are breast aware and referred to the breast clinic. I found those at the breast clinic to be very supportive and should put you at ease. You won't see the needle if they want to do a biopsy due to the physical postion you will be in.

There are many lumps and bumps in breasts so try not to jump to conclusions, cancer at your age is very rare. Good luck for tomorrow and let us know how you get on x

  • Thank you! I am trying to stay calm but it is so hard x

  • Hi, I've had a similar thing to you, that's exactly how I discovered my lump too. I'm 24 so again similar age, and I have anxiety also, especially health anxiety.

I know this is all scary but I had my breast clinic appointment yesterday so hopefully I can help.

They will probably do an ultrasound which is not too bad. I had a core biopsy done with the ultrasound. You might not need it but first off, if you're scared of needles, close your eyes and you will not see a thing. You also wont feel much, just the tiniest pinch when they give you local anaesthetic. The rest of the biopsy, you wont be able to feel it as you'll have been numbed. Also, due to covid the whole time I was wearing a mask, which cuts off my entire view of looking down. So even if I opened my eyes for a bit, I couldn't see what was going on, which was actually very helpful. Again, you might not even need a biopsy, but if they do, you wont see the needle and theres nothing to be afraid of!

Any questions please ask, I know its hard being so young its all very scary and unexpected, but hopefully I've helped even if its just a tiny bit!
