Hi,
I noticed a small lump on the right side of my neck a few weeks ago and after a visit to my GP was referred to the ENT department at my local hospital. The doctor felt the lump and said I needed an ultrasound and fine needle biopsy to rule out anything cancerous. Fast forward to last week when I had the ultrasound the doctor said that the lump I was concerned about was nothing unusual and I've probably had it for years without realising. however, during the ultrasound, the doctor noticed a small growth at the front of my neck. He said it was a suspicious shape and was of concern so took a biopsy of this growth instead.
Today I had my follow up at the hospital the doctor informed me I had a number of small nodes and lumps on the left side of my thyroid gland which looked normal but there was one growth 11mm in size which looked highly concerning. I have therefore been booked in for an operation to remove the left side of my thyroid in 3 weeks time. I asked the doctor today what the results of the biopsy were but he just said they were suspicious.
I was just wondering what this meant as I was under the impression the biopsy results would give me a simple yes or no answer as to whether the cells were cancerous?
Also, what is the likelihood that I actually have thyroid cancer considering I am a 21-year-old male with no symptoms?
Thanks for reading this long message
Paul
