Is a normal mole?

This appeared 5 years ago. I never saw it grow from small I only noticed it when I got myself a tattoo in that area. I remember sitting in the chair looking at it thinking 'where the heck did that come from!?' It's the biggest mole I have (plenty of freckles all over and patches on my forehead) but this not only just appeared already large, it seems to have grown, has uneven edges and has a little lump - hardly noticeable but you can feel it raised and can only see it if you zoomed in on a picture.

Ive been in and out of the doctors several times in the last year due to other unrelated reasons and don't want to pester them again if I don't have to. I don't want to be seen as a hypochondriac ‍♀️

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Sadly, nobody here can tell you if this is a normal mole.
Also, your profile pic may well be removed as it's a breach of site rules.
Don't hesitate to see your GP - so what if they see you as a hypochondriac? They have a duty to see you and assess it.
I had a very sinister looking mole which turned out to be nothing but you mustn't use my experience to put you off seeing your GP.

Don't take any chances - get it seen to.
Hope it all works out x

  • Thanks so much. I am new to this site and not up to scratch with the rules yet. Think a little panic got the better of me to sign up quick to ask a question.

ill go get it checked and hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing.

    thanks again x

  • I'm sure you'll be fine. Yes, defo - get it checked out, even if just for peace of mind.

Let us know how you go? Xx

  • Hi Eleanor,

Don't worry about what your GP thinks about your visits - their job is to check you for any health problems & this is one of them.

Not wanting to bother the GP about a dodgy mole is one reason why skin cancer goes unchecked for a while & that's the worst thing anyone can do. There is every chance your mole is fine but only an expert can tell that so please make an appointment with your GP. Hopefully they will say it's fine, however, if they aren't sure they will refer you for a dermatologist to take a look at it. Don't panic, 75% of patients referred to dermatology are given a clean bill of health so hopefully all will be OK.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)
