Hi everyone,
I posted a while ago as I was concerned about having lymphoma as I'd experienced a lot of symptoms including painless, swollen glands in the neck, occasional night sweats generalised itching.
I was sent for an urgent CT scan and had various blood tests done. The doctor called me back the next day to say that the CT did not show any enlarged nodes and my bloods were fine. He said that pretty much rules out anything sinister but still wanted to see me for a follow up in 4 weeks.
I went back for my follow up today and I saw a different doctor. I told her the previous doctor had said everything was normal and she said 'yes, seemed normal - there was some slight swelling in your nodes which might be infection related'. I told her I had not had any infections and it most definitely will not have been due to that as I've had these swollen nodes since January. She said some people's nodes can just be bigger than others and according to the scan they didn't appear to have the properties of a cancerous node.
More worryingly, I then asked about my blood results and turns out my LDH level is actually slightly elevated. I believe this is an enzyme / tumour marker that is released mainly in lymphomas, kidney and liver disease and mine was higher than the target range. My liver and kidney bloods came back fine so naturally I think the only reason it must be raised is because of a lymphoma. She said it is only slightly out of range (253, should be between 120-242) and isn't really a worry but I can't understand why it would be raised at all. I know there are a few other causes but I'm confident I do not have any of those. I expressed my concerns to the doctor and she has ordered a repeat test and they are going to go from there.
What I don't really understand is why the first doctor told me my scan / bloods were fine 4 weeks ago and that my nodes were not at all raised when in fact they were, along with the tumour marker test. I finally relaxed and thought I was ok and now I'm just worked up, frantically googling and getting anxious again.
Any advice would be appreciated :)
