22 and extremely anxious about Lung Cancer

Hi,

Sorry for such a rant about my symptoms but after going online it seems to fit the list of symptoms unfortunately.

I'd be so grateful for anyone who can offer some reassurance or knowledge.

I've been having constant breathing issues for 12 weeks now, with pain in the upper right side of my chest every few days or so. I feel as though I can't take a deep breath and most of my breathing has become just attempts at deep breaths followed by a sigh.

I've also had chest pain on and off for maybe 5 weeks. And for the past couple of weeks I've been so fatigued I've been in bed a lot, intermittently my thighs have had a deep ache at the same place in both. I've lost about 5kg since my breathing problem began. I'm also feeling a bit nauseas on and off.

I have had a chest x-ray and some blood tests which I'll get later next week, but until then I'm going to feel so anxious having read previous cases in people my age.

Thanks

  • Tuberculosis is a possible causes of your symptoms. My uncle had it and lost a lot of weight, was constantly fatigued, and had similar chest problems.

  • Hiya Tav90

I'm 41 and was diagnosed last year with stage 4 lung cancer (incurable) my symptoms started with extreme shoulder pain, no cough etc. I know it's hard but try not to worry chances are you'll be ok abd like FBg said could d be Tuberculosis, when do you get your results?

Please don't be sorry for having a rant, it's good to get it out... I'll be thinking of you wishing you all the best, let us know how you get on, GOOD LUCK!!

  • Hi Tav

A family member had lung cancer which started with a cough that wouldn't go away. It's more likely to be something else for you, what with your age and there being other possible causes of your symptoms.

It's awful waiting for results...would you let us know how you get on? xx

  • Hi Tav,

I don't know if you've considered this but it could be Covid19 - I've had similar symptoms for months (though it did also start with fever/cough) and am in a Covid19 support group with thousands of people who have also been struggling with their breathing for months on end, some diagnosed with Covid and some not. (I haven't been diagnosed & am getting other testing done as I am also worried it could be something else). At this stage you wouldn't be able to get an accurate test, so it's still just worthwhile getting the symptoms you're having investigated, but I just wanted to say I think this definitely could be a possibility.
