Worried sick

I had a mammogram on Wednesday for the first time following a painful swollen breast which antibiotics took down.  The mammogram is showing a m4 the doctor said and he believes it is cancer but not 100% sure.  An ultrasound could not pick it up as it was too vague and small.  They have taken 3 biopsies and for me to come back in 2 weeks.  I am going out of my mind with worry.  Can a mammogram alone diagnose without the biopsy and ultrasound?  Could it still come back benign? Has anyone had a similar experience?

  • I had a mammogram ultrasound and core biopsy then the doctor said I had breast cancer, I was out of my mind with worry I was called back to get told it was benign, but they were not convinced and still thought cancer so I had a vacuum biopsy and I'm still waiting for results I'm so worried, I wish you so much luck xxx

  • Omg it really is so worrying I keep trying to think positive but one minute i can and the next i am a panicing mess.  The stress you must be going through is unimaginable i sincerely hope this biopsy comes back negative for you as well.

  • I think the waiting must be the worse thing, I don't think they should tell you that until they are 100% the nurse even told me to prepare my children I've now been waiting 26 days, I can't think of anything else, my husband lost his first wife to breast cancer, can't imagine what  he's going through. If you don't mind once you get your results would you let me know. Take care and keep strong xx

  • No i dont think they should say anything like that until they are 100% thats what worries me i presume he would know and if he said it then it is, but it would appear this may not be the case.  I am not saying anything to my children until the biopsy results i dont want them worrying as well.  I am going to prepare for the worst but also the possibilty that the dr is wrong. I will definately let you know how mine come back.  Why are you having to wait so long?

  • The first biopsy was on the 1st June, then I had to wait 11  days for the results.  They only did the vacuum biopsy a week ago so hopefully I should here soon. My children are adults but still feel bad for worrying them. Xx

  • Try and stay positive i know unfortunately how hard that is to do, hopefully the second biopsy will confirn what the first was saying.  But i have to say your doctor is clearly being very thorough which as petrifying as it is, is actually a good thing.  My children are adults as well just...they are still living at home (always my babies)

  • Hi Adella how did you get on?  I have found myself in the same position as you the biopsy has come back cancer free but now they want to do the vacuum biopsy to make sure nothing has been missed, so although i feel a bit better - not much

  • I'm still waiting for my results nearly 3 weeks now it's driving me mad hopefully I should hear something Tuesday when they have there weekly meeting xx I wish you luck xxx

  • That is awful waiting that long.  I work in a hospital, i have been told repeatedly that if there is something wrong they call you sooner even if you have an appointment.  So hopefully the delay is a good thing.  Can i ask if the vacuun biopsy is painful, the normal one was so the thought of another one is making me anxious x

  • They numbed the area so it was great just felt a bit of prodding that's all, I think even if my second biopsy comes back benign I want the lump out, to be told by the doctor that it was cancer and it's grown into the chest wall, I would just feel better, let me know how you get on xxx
