gyne appointment

I am 53 and I've had the Mirena coil in for 2.5 years now with no issue! Last Sunday I started to bleed and had the usual period pains! I contacted my doctor on Monday who took a vaginal swab for testing and said she would refer me to gynae for a scan! Yesterday I received a call from the hospital with an appointment for 17 July. In November 2019 I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and my appointments then were 'red flagged' so everything happened quite quickly.

At the moment I really don't know what to think. Why am I being seen so quickly? Do they maybe suspect something? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

thank you

  • Hello shirlmo,

I can understand why you are feeling worried that you are being seen so quickly but it's good that they are being so efficient and  thorough and that you won't have to wait too long to be seen. It won't be long now until the 17th July. Try not to draw any conclusions as to why they are seeing you so quickly. It's good that you will get some definite answers soon. I know it's really hard but try and keep busy and distracted if you can before your appointment date and avoid looking anything up online or it will only bring up worst case scenarios and make you feel more anxious.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out to be fine and you find out more soon.

    Best wishes,
