24M severe colon/bowel cancer symptoms?

Hi all,

24M, exercise regularly, otherwise fit and healthy. Extremely worried that I am exhibiting severe cancer symptoms.

Around the end of January had a localised painful spot in my abdomen occur suddenly (that is tender to touch). The pain seems to resonate down the RHS of my abs. The pain has been constant for 5 months now. At this stage I did not notice any bowel changes, blood in stool, change in motions etc. GP thought the issue was muscular.

Fast forward 3 months and a visit to A/E with the same issue. The doctors performed an abdominal ultrasound and blood tests - came back all clear. No anemia.

After visiting the hospital I notice I am slightly more constipated than usual... this then progresses into the feeling of incomplete evacuation and needing the loo all the time. I have developed pains around the anus and lower back and buttock ache, also. My bowel habits have changed to every 2 days I feel completely "alien" down there.

GP says unlikely to be CRC because of age and timeline of events. Refers me to sports physio. Another month passes and I'm still experiencing these issues.

I have since gone privately and have booked a colonoscopy and CT scan. I am so so worried of the outcome of these tests, however. It seems that I am exhibiting every single sinister symptom out there and at this point have already diagnosed myself with late stage CRC. I really have given up hope. Right now I'm sat here with severe back ache, RHS tummy pain, change in bowels, sciatica, and lightheadedness.

Any words of encouragement would be fabulous during this time as I really am struggling.

Thank you.

  • No I'm just able to feel my colon and have to strain to poop which I was told is just long term constipation and to just be careful if I were you I'd go to a doctor ASAP if this has been happening for months it's might not be cancer but it really does sound like it and it's been going on for a while so it could have spread I'd go to a specialist

  • Yeah I've got colonoscopy booked and all that. I'm just gutted it's all happening to me at 24 with no prior symptoms.

This does sound like cancer doesn't it?

  • I wish I even had a single differential diagnosis for what this could be. But cancer just seems assured at this rate.

  • Feel like I'm having a panic attack this morning.

  • I have exactly the same symptoms as you...

im 32, happily married with a 5 year old daughter. I know the absolute mental torture you're putting yourself through because I am too.

i have a colonoscopy on Wednesday- when is yours?

ive had a ct scan of abdomin and pelvis but I've later found out it would have more than likely not have shown anything... so feel like this was a waste of time and feel kind of stupid being so relieved and my family all getting happy and excited it didn't show anything significant...

I know it's hard but please try and be calm... there is a phone number on here you can call if you're waiting on a diagnoses or scared. Have you called your GP? Have you been to hospital?

  • I understand that you're trying to help by getting to the bottom of the situation- but you can clearly read that worriedanon is distressed and struggling- maybe not the best advice telling him it most likely sounds like cancer and could have spread. He is fully aware of his symptoms and is distressed enough and waiting for the correct procedure.

  • Thanks LJB.

To be honest there is no point sugar coating it. My symptoms indicate a very advanced stage. So frustrating as I've been hounding the GP for months but have been fobbed off because of my age. I'm in such a bad state health wise at the moment that I've lost all quality of life anyway. I've come to terms with the fact my prognosis will be bad. Hopefully they can ease my pain for a short while, anyway. x

  • Have you had any other tests? Bloods scans stools etc...?

what day is your colonoscopy? Mine is Wednesday at 6pm

i think any test like this it's best to be prepared obviously... hope for the best and prepare for the worst kind of thing, do you live on your own or with family? X

  • I've had 2 cbc blood tests - both come back normal.

X-ray of chest and abdomen were also normal. But doesn't mean anything really without the colonoscopy.

I live with my parents so they are trying to get me through this bless them x

  • Definitely get some comfort with your parents, they love you more than anyone and I know I'd hate to see my little girl so scared no matter how old she is- 5yrs old or 25!

I have found so many people on Instagram living with stage 4 bowel cancer and other cancers and they are honestly amazing, so don't think about things in terms of "a short while"

I honestly honestly feel exactly the same as you. Message me if you need to chat. If I don't hear from you please let me know how you get on and I will likewise. Maybe try and take somehting like kalms or smell some lavender to calm your nerves (I know I sound like a right old girl saying that) but it might just help bring a little calm x
