Struggling to be taken seriously by gp? Lymphoma worries

Hey,

So i seem to have been fobbed off for the last 3 weeks by my gp and others in the same practice. I don't know if its partly covid related or what but ive not been seen physically by a doctor for the last few months. I have a swelling on my jaw line/just underneath that is growing, i am getting low grade temps since janurary that they are also not bothered about since lock down. I keep getting told to leave in a few more weeks and was told once well you were tested for lymphoma last year so it cant be that even though things can change in the space of months never mind a whole year. Is anyone else struggling to be taken seriously at the moment due to covid? I dont know what to do at this point and i don't feel turning up at the hospital is appropiate at this stage. Ive also been fobbed off in terms of they tell me that "well your going to work so you cant be that bad off" this really urks me because i have a strong work ethic that usual wins over my own health. Any advice wouldbe great thanks guys xx

  • yeah i get it,

I think this is like a 3rd opinion as the other two doctors weren't even interested in even seeing the lump or trying antibiotics to see if it went away. I very nearly used my private health cover to be taken seriously but thankfully this doctor is listening :)

  • Yes, I can relate. Been having some weird symptoms past few weeks. Abdominal pain, lower back pain that radiates down both legs, feeling full for a long time after eating. Had a cervical smear which came back negative. Also had vaginal swabs and urine tests which came back "abnormal" so have been prescribed two lots of antibiotics. When I call my GP surgery, I only get as far as the receptionist. She is the one who informs me of these abnormal results and that I have been prescribed antibiotics that are waiting for me at the pharmacy. They will not tell me why I am being prescribed these drugs! Presumably, these are minor infections that have nothing to do with my other serious symptoms. I should be getting bloods taken at the very least. Just feels like my health is in the hands of a GP receptionist! What a joke! When did healthcare in this country get so bad?

I am going to wait until Monday and insist I speak to a GP. I refuse to let them fob me off any longer. You know your own body better than anyone else and if you have a gut feeling something is wrong, you need to fight to be heard.

  • Yeah i really know what you mean about receptionist!! I like telling them well i am a nurse so if i ask questions i expect answers not snooty replies such as 'oh you won't understand what they are or what they mean' ......erm yeah.

I hope you get somewhere on monday x

  • So glad sammy....hope evrythin is ok...you just hav to keep pushing until you get the right response...sending u all my love.xxx god bless sweet.xxx

  • Theres been an update im not too happy with :/

They have decided to do a telephone appointment with ent to see if i need to go in. Im frustrated because no one seems to want to do anything and im just left feeling like rubbish.

  • Hi Sammy,

I feel for you, I recently had a telephone appointment with a neurologist to see if I need a head CT. He ended up asking me a bunch of questions I clearly wasn't qualified to answer. Fortunately, he agreed to put me forward and I'm now waiting for my results.

My advice would be answer honestly, but don't be afraid to challenge them and push for what you need. If they do decide you don't need an appointment ask them what is supposed to happen next?

  • Thank you lovely x

Ive just read your post, its super frustrating. Neuro wouldnt origionally see me as i went 2 years ago even though i had the migraines that look like strokes ‍♀️ i pestered the secutary until they saw me.

I might just try to get seen on my private health insurance if im honest first my gp wouldnt see me for a month and now im suppose to have an ultrasound but heard nothing yet about my neck lump. I hope you get answers soon x
