Waiting for results from mole excision

Hello everyone

I have been reading posts for about a week now and just want to say what a great supportive forum this is.

I was referred to the Dermatologist under the fast track scheme I had my appointment very quickly and was told they needed to remove a suspicious mole. 2 days later I had the operation under local anaesthetic. Unfortunately I have not had a great time since and had a temperature and fast heart rate. The doctor prescribed antibiotics which worked well and I'm on the road to recovery awaiting stitches removal next week.

As I've been pretty occupied with the after op issues I haven't thought too much about the results but that's changed now and getting worried it's so tough waiting isn't it! It's been a week and a half now so fingers crossed for something soon

Would be good to hear from anyone going through the same thing as support for each other!

  • Hi Lozzie,

I'm a little further on than you with my treatment so I fully understand your anxiety in waiting for your results.

Days just can't come quick enough.

Do you have a date for your results? I hope that your results come through soon and it's good news for you.

That was very good that you were seen so soon for your mole removal, one less thing to worry about.

There are a couple of people at the same stage on here as yourself you could contact. I'm sure they would welcome some more support as well.

Hope that it's good news for you.

    Jason

  • Hi Jason

Thank you for your reply it's really appreciated and would be great to get in contact with more people in our situation and support each other. It's such a strange situation that sometimes only those going through it understand.

I'm sorry to hear that you are also going through this what stage are you at if.you don't mind me asking please? How long did your results take?

I don't have a date for my results yet but getting very watchful over my phone checking it's on loud. Deciding if it's ridiculous to call and double check they have my current number lol.  and of course everytime the postie comes.

Thank you for your good wishes I really hope you are doing well!

  • Hi Lozzie,

It took a very long 4 weeks from the initial tumour removal until I recieved my results. I received a letter asking me to attend a clinic at the hospital, but I suppose during these uncertain times it may be a telephone consultation for you.

Although I had been given the all clear as I was 2c so I needed further treatment "wide excision and lymph node biopsy"

It was like the longest 4 weeks of my life. How are you finding it?

After 9 long months and 2 operations I have now been given the all clear. But I now have a 5 year plan of check ups and appointments.

I was told that I would be told as soon as the results can in so calling early wouldn't help.

I know how hard it is waiting for your results but hang in there and fingers crossed for good news.

  • Hi Jason

It sounds like you've been on a  long journey and through a lot but amazing that you are out of the other side and have been given the all clear that is brilliant news and well done you for being supportive and positive for others it makes a huge difference. I know you have 5 years of check ups but best to check and be in the right place just in case.

I think you could be right about the telephone consultation at the moment I will need to make notes as every appointment so far I have had mind fog about what has been said!

I will hang there and try and put my phone down and relax. Luckily work is busy so in a way that helps.

    Thanks again Jason

  • Hi Lozzie,

Jason has given you very good advice & I can only add a little of my own. Did they give you any indication how long the results may take when you had the excision? Results, pre Covid, were taking on average 6 weeks but some hospitals at the moment are getting them through quicker because they aren't doing as many surgical procedures. I would suggest that, if you get to the 4 week mark without any sign, give the consultant's secretary a ring & see if they are back. If they are back there may still be a delay as all results (whether benign or cancer) have to be discussed at the MDT (Multi Disciplinary Meeting) first before given to the patient. The MDT is only held once a week so it often delays matters.

Most consultants prefer to give results face to face so an appointment letter is usually expected. This is for good or bad news because they will also check the excision wound. Some results at the moment will be given in a telephone consultation but this is only where the wound doesn't need checking. Who is removing your stitches next week? If the consultant is free they may see you then to give you the results (they did to me first time around but that was 24 years ago).

Hopefully you won't be waiting much longer & crossing fingers for good news for you. Please let us know how you get on,

  • Hi Angie T

Thank you for your reply and I just want to say what an enormous support you are on this forum I've seen many posts from you taking the time to answer everybody's concerns so individually for each person- big thank you!

My stitches are being taken out at my GP's unfortunately so I won't have the chance to speak to my consultant...I'm so tempted to call now but know it's probably too soon

Thank you so much for your good wishes I will let you know how i get on and hope you are doing well x

  • Hi Lozzie,

How are you coping ok I hope. Any news yet?

  • Hi Jason

Thanks for asking. I'm still waiting unfortunately, sometimes I am fine and getting on with things sometimes it is tougher.

I called up a couple of days ago and they said that the results weren't available yet but they hope to have something Monday. It's been 3 weeks since the excision on Monday so I am starting to think it's must be good news or they would have called me sooner but who knows...

How are you doing? Hope all is well

  • Hello all

I promised I would update once I got my results and on my birthday today I got the all clear so very happy.

Always here to chat or offer support or guidance and thank you to all that supported me. Your kind words were priceless.

  • That's brilliant news Lozzie xx
