Waiting for a breast scan.

Hi I went to my gp about 2 weeks ago after finding a small pea sized lump in my breast about a month beforehand (gave it time to see if it went away on its own) he said at the appointment that he didnt think it was an infection and was going to refer me for a scan, he then decided to try a course of antibiotics just in case, antibiotics didnt make a change to the lump I have and he done a referral, I had a phone call today and my appointment is next wednesday but because of everything that's going on I have to be seen at the breast test wales centre instead of at the hospital, I'm going out of my mind and trying my best not to worry but with 4 young children at home it's really hard not to focus on the worst possible outcomes. Hoping someone has some advice and wisdom as to what will be happening next week.

  • Hi.

I am in the same situation. I have a lump in my nipple that has been there a while, I had a course of antibiotics some time ago and went back to the doctors and he seemed to think that the lump had gone down a bit.

The lump is back with a vengeance, bigger than before. I have been referred to the breast clinic and my apt is Wednesday.

I also have four young children and if you need to talk, I'm here.

  • Hi just wanted to reply,

Try not to worry and take one day at a time..there is lot of waiting!!

The breast clinics are lovely and a one stop shop for everything that needs to been done...if anything needs to be done

You will probably be examined and if they feel necessary be sent for ultrasound and then they will decide if you need biopsy.

I know some people are told the same day if they suspect cancer...I have been to clinic twice and never told on the day.

Then the dreaded wait for results

I first went in june 2019 ultrasound/ biopsy waited 7 weeks for results came back benign

Went back to clinic in January 2020 more ultrasound/biopsies told she thought it was infection.

Called in for results had high grade DCIS

MRI..13 Biopsies and 6 Biopsies under mammogram later and they had discovered different areas in the breast. All the time the staff an nurses are absolutely lovely. I was on my own due to covid.

I had a right sided mastectomy on the 21st may

Brilliant care from start to finish

And got the all clear on Monday just gone.
