Swollen Lymph Nodes

Hi all,

I don't usually post on these forums but am getting myself so worked up at the moment so hoping it could help.

At the beginning of may I noticed a hard, immoveable lump on the right hand side of my neck directly below my ear lobe on my jaw line. Which is about 2cm in size.

It aches and feels swollen but isn't necessarily painful. Then a few days later i noticed another node was swollen just below it but this one moves and is a lot smaller but still firm.

I have had a sore throat on an off but not now and have been under extreme amounts of stress aswell as worrying about this now.

My health anxiety is through the roof as I have a 2 and half year old boy. I am 31 by the way too.

I have been to the doctors and he did bloods which came back fine, he has now referred me for an ENT appt to hopefully get a scan, which is on Friday.

I am petrified it could be lymphoma, I have not had any symptoms other than the lump though.

Has anybody experienced anything like this or could give me any advice to reign in my horrid thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

  • I am currently going through exactly the same.

I have a small lump under my left ear lob and a large one about 2-3cm.

yesterday I had a scan and a biopsy on the larger lump and today I received a call for an appointment on Monday to discuss the results. I am going out of my mind and really stressed.

im 32 and really scared of the potential of a cancerous result. 6 days does seem like a small amount of time in comparison to some of the posts her however this has been on going since last November when I had a mole removed from my ear (on the same side)

Has anyone else gone through similar? Or have any opinion on what we may be facing?

    Thanks in advance

  • So sorry... I am having similar, waiting for scan date... Left side, behind the ear, very hard and immoveable :-( Scary... been there for at least 5 months, possible enlarging a bit.

    Ugh. The worry.

  • Mine is left aswell, all started with a mole at the top of my ear, had that removed.

a small lump appeared under my lobe then a larger on appeared in February. If it helps at all, there was a few people having the same procedure as us when I was there yesterday. I'm just longing for someone who has a positive story to give some reassurance.

Im sorry for what your going through and I wish you all the very best and hopefully it'll be ok.

Does anyone know if they will give results over the phone? I understand it's best practice but the thought of waiting until my appointment is making me feel sick to my stomach worry (I'm sure you all know the feeling too well :( )

    xx

  • Wow, that really does sound similar...it's awful waiting...driving me insane. Luckily my doctor referred me for an emergency appointment to try and get seen quicker.

My nodes seem to go up and down in size,  especially the larger one . But only marginally and never goes away completely.

Was your scan and biopsy done at your first ENT appt or was this arranged afterwards?

I dont really know what to expect from my appt on Friday.

Sorry that you are both in a similar situation.

  • My first ENT appointment was a magic eye then he referred me for ultrasound and biopsy. Think there was about a week wait so not too long but it feels like a life time.

just waiting for my results now, but there's literally not a second that I'm not worrying over the results. So its going to be a difficult 2-3 weeks both but try and stay head strong and not stress, as I can't imagine it will do any of us any favours! :)

  • Ah ok, sorry to be dense  but what is a magic eye?is that a camera?

And yes I'm constantly telling myself to get a grip and not to worry about something that hasn't been diagnosed but it's so difficult.

My doc was hoping that if they wanted to do a scan that they might do it there and then due to the whole covid scenario, to prevent me from coming in again but I'm guessing that wasn't the case for you?

I really hope you get the result you are longing for, please keep me updated :)

  • It's a small camera that goes up through your nose and down your throat, it was the most pleasant but everything was ok which was good.

I was under the care of dermatology due to the mole on my ear so I had a follow appointment, then I was referred to the ENT... I was expecting to wait two weeks but they called me in early thank god. I was having a bit of pain though (similar time ear ache) so I rang the ENT doctor on Friday just gone and then I had a call for the Scan and biopsy yesterday.

hopfully you won't have to wait to much longer but if you are feeling any new pain or if your concerned about anything then ring your doctor. Looking back I wish I had rung back in February :(

I'll keep you all updated and hopefully I'll have something positive to share with you next week.

  • Sorry to you both for going through this. I hope it all turns out to be nothing.

I have tried trawling through other posts, but cant seem to find anyone that says lymph nodes can come up for no reason? Have you heard of people randomly having hard lymph nodes that dont go down, not be dangerous.

Ugh... waiting is the worst. xx

  • Thats the thing, that haven't! That's what I was doing on here when I came across you post surely there is someone who's had similar... all three of us connected your stories in the matter of one day!

that's all I've seen are posts that confirm my worries, I know they say you shouldn't cling to hope but I was hoping for something to reassure me of the possibility of a positive outcome!

fingers crossed that you both will get seen soon and we will get the opportunity to share some positivity

  • Hi,  I did the same when my husband went to docs with increasing lymph nodes.  Could not really find any info.  There are a coup;e of sites that are quite good.  ie. Patient power, Health unblocked.  I would stress though that these are better for peeople that have been diagnosed .  Your lymph nodes could be raised for any number of reasons.  I really hope you can find some answers soon. Take care x
