Stage 4 cancer at 28 - is there any hope?

I'm 28 years old. I have 2 very young children (2 and 3 years old) and I believe I have stage 4 cancer. A mass has been detected in my liver, and I have abnormal lymph node swellings which need to be scanned. But, if there's cancer in either of those areas it's likely to have spread from somewhere else (my guess is colon, I just thought I had IBS )

I've lost 55lbs of muscle and fat. I'm literally wasting away and I'm scared I will die before getting a diagnosis at this point. Please, please is there any hope? I don't want to die. I need to be here for my children. I am beyond heartbroken

  • Hi KrissyRawrz

It sounds like you're having a terrible time.

I think you're being far too hasty in deciding you must have stage 4 cancer. It sounds like the doctors do not agree with you. A Radiographer would not just send you home with advice to speak to your GP abour arranging an MRI if they thought they'd found a tumour on your liver. You'd be a priorty case and your GP would be under instruction to fast track you. Even during Covid, they haven't stopped doing this.

Don't give up hope just yet. As much as the doctors may be coming across as dismissive, they're the experts and they clearly don't think you've got cancer.

  • Hi, I had a similar result a couple of years ago with a lesion in the liver found, mine turned out to be a hematoma and apparently nothing to worry about. My husband on the other hand was found a year ago to have multiple lesions in his liver at age 43 and it did unfortunately turn out to be stage 4 cancer. We were also told "unlikely because of age" but it can happen, they should never take it lightly. We found the only way we got to the bottom of it was to get admitted to hospital and then they have to check you out properly.  if you are getting nowhere you may want to organize someone to care for the kids who can have them overnight,  then get someone to take you to emergency department at hospital "in absolute agony" and push to be admitted and get to the bottom of it..do you know if your blood tests showed anything? My liver function was ok with the hematoma but my husbands blood tests with cancer showed problems in his liver function which was suspicious and his skin and eyes were a bit yellow..he also had multiple lesions where I only had one..( not sure if that is more common when it is cancer), we have two girls, aged 8 and 12 when he was diagnosed,  its so unfair on families but I really hope yours is positive news xx

  • Hi,

Just wondering what the outcome was im

26 diagnosed with 6 tumours on the liver that are benign so they say but convinced that they're not benign due to pain.

    Thank you
