Worried that I may have liver cancer

Hi everyone,

coming here as I feel I'm in a bit of a spiral. I've been having back aches for a little while (a couple of months) and have been and seen a GP which was scary at this time. He did an exam but as the pain felt quite transient at different times, he said that it was probably muscular/skeletal. As that was also diagnosed through 2 other phone consultations, I agreed that that must be the diagnosis.

prior to that I had put myself in hospital through an anxiety attack and my bloods showed an increased level of bilirubin - a follow up test a week later was just given as 'no action required' so I assume that it was fine.

Now I have a pain at the back of the bottom of my ribs on the right side. To me there feels like there is a lump on the bone when compared with the left side. As well as this it is quite uncomfortable on the front right side of my stomach / top of pelvis when I sit or lean forward.

my mum had kidney cancer surgery two days ago and I'm now worried that I may be having signs of liver cancer given The location and bilirubin results form a few months ago.

can anyone shed any light in similar symptoms and diagnosis?

ive got a phone appt with GP on Weds for anxiety diagnosis follow up, so will mention it then, just concerned that it will be lumped together and classed as all in my head.

thanks for reading.

  • Hi. Sorry you are not feeling well. I know how it feels to not know what is wrong with you as in the same predicament myself. 2 yrs ago l started with bloating and constipation and has been back and forth to doctors and told its IBS.

symptoms getting worse and at present have bloating, pain on lower back and  lower abdomen.  Sometimes l feel like there is pressure on my back or something gripping tightly. Now been told will get an endoscopy and scan, not sure when. Due for repeat blood test tomorrow. Worried sick as a friend of mine died 2 years ago with pancreatic cancer but trying not to overthink. Will keep you updated. Hope you get fixed soon

  • Just thought I'd pop by and say my husband has secondary liver cancer and he has no symptoms at all, so pain and worrying really are not signs of cancer being the outcome.  It does sound like health anxiety and because a parent has cancer does not mean you will have it, especially if it's not related.  Both my plarents had blood cancer but I haven't got it so after the blood test to confirm this I've never given it another thought.  Because we all have too much time on our hands our minds are going haywire and every time we feel something different we fear the worst.  Hope your Mum recovers  well, a dear friend of mine has just had the same operation and she is doing really well and she is 75 years old.  Take care, Carol
