skin cancer waiting for biopsy results

Hi,I have had a biopsy taken from my ear and was waiting for results..after initially having a speedy appointment after seeing my doctor ,I was seen at hospital and the procedure was carried out, most impressed at this fast time ,less than 2 weeks initially, also was found to have a pre-cancer on my cheek for which I was given a cream to use for 3 weeks,.

I recieved my next appointment for 3 weeks later ,at which I would expect to be told about the more serious one on my ear,..this was changed to a phone consultation which was then cancelled completely,I therefore havnt been told the results of the biopsy..and will be notified when an appointment is available..its the not knowing that is now worrying.

can I get my results from somewhere.?

thanks and stay safe .

  • Hi Dave,

The fact that your appointment was originally going to be by phone consultation & then it was cancelled until an unknown date makes me think (and don't take this as gospel) that the results were favourable & didn't necessitate an immediate face to face consultation.

All that being said, you will worry until you know your results so your options are a) contact the hospital and either speak to the consultant's secretary and ask for a call back with your results or speak to the Cancer Specialist Nurse & ask for them to give you the results. If it turns out that only the consultant can/wants to give them to you then ask for a re-arranged appointment date and/or b) ring your GP as they are informed of the results. The problem with this is GP's don't always understand dermatology results & what the next step would be so they may only be able to give you half an answer.

Good luck, I hope you get your results soon & they bring you good news. Please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)

  • Hi Angie, thanks for the reply,I will ring someone to see what is the result..

thanks and hope and wish you all the best
