I have had a dark line on my thumb nail for about a year but over the past week another mark has appeared on the lower nail also. I've read various comments and will make an appt to see a GP but can these be nothing to worry about?
It certainly needs checking out but there is every chance it's caused by either a fungal infection or some type of trauma. Subungal melanoma is rare, it only accounts for 1% of melanoma diagnoses in white people and 5% in dark skinned people so the odds are good that your nail will be fine.
