I'm a 17 year old male and have had 5 enlarged, painless, rubbery/hard lymph nodes for 4 months (in front of ear, in neck, and groin; some are moveable some aren't). I've also had an itch that comes over the upper part of my body for 2 years now (though it has been happening more frequently since this January) - it seems to come on randomly, is really bad, and doesn't leave a rash (goes away by itself after a few minutes). I've felt like my appetite's been lower and I've had less energy than usual in the last few months, though I could just be overthinking that.
I have a few other symptoms that have been worrying me, but I don't think they're serious enough to really amount to anything (there's a good chance I'm just "imagining" them). I've done a lot of googling (which I know I shouldn't have) and now I'm really worried about possibly having lymphoma. I saw a doctor about this a few months ago, and they said to come back in a few months if I was still having these symptoms. I am, so I went back yesterday, and the doctor said he didn't know what was causing all of this and to come back in a few more months if my symptoms continue.
I was a bit frustrated by this - even if all of my symptoms aren't caused by something serious, I wish I at least knew why they were happening and if there were some way to stop them (especially the itch).
I told my mum what the doctor said about coming back again, and she wants to call the doctor tomorrow and ask I get referred for a blood test. I'm worried this will seem really pushy. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Would it be better to wait 3 more months to see the doctor again (like he said) or is being so assertive worth it in this case? I'm conflicted because I'm worried, but it would be horribly embarrassing to be so insistent, then get tested to find that nothing's wrong.
