Murphy3 - scared what son's results could be

Hello, my son aged 28 has had an aching/painful arm for 3_4 months and discovered a couple of lumps in his neck area, near clavicle.  Went to GP and he referred him to Haematology under the scary 2 week wait thing.  Saw Haematologist who said the mo felt suspicious so had very comprehensive blood test, MRI   and ultrasound biopsy of lymph nodes in neck.  Radiologist said the MRI had shown 'abnormal lymphnodes.  So am freaking out that this lymphoma or spread from another cancer.  My son had a ganglioneuroblastoma in brain aged 14 months with surgery and treatment.  Subsequent brain scans are stable.  Any advice welcomed, thanks

  • Hello Murphy3 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that your son has been having some investigations with the haematologist recently. It's absolutely natural that you're feeling worried about what these may be showing particularly as he has previously had treatment for a brain tumour.

Have the hospital given him any indication about what the next steps may be or how long he will have to wait for an appointment/results? We know that many of our members here will understand how hard it can be waiting for information. Often it is the unknown that is the scariest thing to deal with.

If you think it would be helpful to talk through your worries and concerns with one of our nurses then you're very welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you're both getting on.

    Best wishes,
