Waiting for breast clinic appointment

Hi. Ive spoken to my doctor today about my breast problems. Its hard and has a dent at the bottom. My doctor said she would send me for a breast clinic appointment straightaway instead of seeing her first. I feel slightly better now i've taken the first step. I am worrying about a lot of other things too. Results, going to the hospital alone. I've had an ultrasound and biopsy done on my other breast 2 years ago, so im ok about them, but am nervous about other tests.

  • Hi,

This is my second time, last time was hormonal 5 years ago.  Its just like everyone says it's the waiting  and the more you wait the more you become anxious.

  • Hi Kernow ..

it's awful isn't it, the unknown, the what's ifs ..

im sat here pondering, working myself up, getting upset, not wanting to tell anyone, not to worry them cos it's hopefully nothing to worry about but we just can't help but worry ourselves sick :(

hiw long was you waiting for an appointment? I'm in wales so not sure if it varies in different countries..

all the very best to you for Thursday I have everything crossed for good results xxxx

  • Hi,

I went to the doctor with pain in my armpit and was told I'd probably pulled a muscle.  Doctor said for pain I will have to take painkillers for 6 weeks before being referred to breast clinic if it continues.  10 says later pain worst  so I phoned babylon health as I couldn't get through to 111 as it was Boxing Day.  They did a referral  tried NHS but it was a 3 week wait in our area (South east).  So I've gone private and got an appointment in a weeks time.  I couldn't wait that long

  • Hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread. I've been referred to the breast clinic for a lump by my GP today and to say I'm worried would be an understatement! I've been warned the usual 2 week wait could be 4 weeks but having spoken to some private clinics they aren't much quicker.

going to have to keep myself very busy to try and ease the Googling and stress. I hope you're bearing up ok!

  • Hi Worried2022,

I'm so sorry you have been referred to the breast clinic.  I decided to go private as it was quicker in my area.  8 days after booking the appointment which was 10 days quicker than going NHS.  I have my appointment tomorrow.  Although I have an hours journey.

I have been listening to comedy on BBC sounds, it helps to distract a little but my mind starts to wonder and realise I hadn't listened to anything.  I have moments of madness and start googling and get upset, because nothing gives me the right answers (your going to be OK!!).

Try not to Google,  easier said then done!!  Hopefully you will get an appointment soon.  I have a friend who booked privately then cancelled when the NHS was quicker, which might help.  Keep your options open

Need a chat, always hear to listen

  • Morning,

I hope that your appointment goes well today, please let us know how you get on.

To those who are waiting, the waiting is awful.  In the run up to my appointment I had convinced myself that I had several different things wrong with me especially after some severe googling.

Im in the south east, Kent, from referral to breast clinic took 8 days total,in December.

    Try to keep busy.

  • Thanks Kernow and Gemmy

    good luck today kernow.

As soon as I get my referral letter I'll be checking on wait times for nhs and private. Bring in south Devon it seems we don't have many one stop clinics, although I'm happy to travel if it cuts the wait time significantly.

  • Just wanted to let you know I have costochondritis which is treatable with antibiotics.  To say I'm relieved is an understatement.

I had a wonderful consultant that put me totally at ease.  Then a mammogram, a bit painful and then an ultrasound.  The radiologist took the time to show me what she was looking for and then back to the consultant .  All over in 2 1/2 hours.

Keep me informed on how you get on.  I'm hear if you need a chat

  • Great news Kernow!! I'm so pleased for you you must feel amazing.

  • Has your appointment come through yet?  As you know I went private as for me it was quicker than NHS in our area.  I always think if you have to go few extra miles to get the results quicker it's worth it.

I felt physically sick this morning.  Keep me updated

    Kernow xx
