So scared colon cancer

It's a bit of a long one so apologies in advance I'm just so scared.

Jan 19 I started with extremely watery bowel movements no pain particularly or blood that I could see but it made me go to toilet alot more often that usual obviously. I put it down to IBS having being told some years previously I may have that after having my gallbladder removed. I eventually ended up at the drs in april/may 19.... And he tested my blood and stool my stool sample came back abnormal with extreme levels of Fecal Calprotectin (1500) the Dr suggested repeating those and then possibly referring me to the hospital as he suspected Ulcerative Colitis. I was then told after the second sample no further action necessary by which point my bowel movements went back to normal as quick as it started. Fast forward to Jan this year and I started getting constipated I went to the drs again and they gave me laxatives and repeated the blood and stool samples was again told no further action necessary. I then started to get blood when I went to toilet but because of Covid found it very hard to get a Dr to see me eventually end of April one of the Drs agreed to examine me and found a fissure that he felt was the cause of the blood however he referred me to the hospital due to those Fecal calprotectin levels which hadn't gone back to lower amounts at all ( 647 and then 154 Jan this year) so while they are getting lower they still aren't low enough and I've been referred to the hospital but I'm still waiting for the appointment. I also found out they never did a hidden blood test on my stool which now can't be done due to me bleeding anyway from the fissure. I'm so scared it's colon cancer because since this the laxatives have stopped working and after looking up IBD non of them cause constipation add that to the blood and something obviously blocking me from going to the toilet I'm fearing the worst Confused ( I have since also found out that Fecal calprotectin can be high in colon cancer cases not just IBD) I have no pain whatsoever but this is still scaring me and my anxiety is through the roof! Think I just needed to talk to someone....I know there's people worse off than me I'm just so scared this has being going on too long

So severe diarrhea, high FCP, blood and extreme constipation just to summarise

  • Hello Frankii and welcome to our forum!

I hope that you will meet others here who find themselves in a similar situation. I actually just came across a post from another member who seems to be experiencing similar issues with also high levels of fecal calprotectin. You can read [@ClaudiaMadzLyla]‍ 's post here and I hope it will be helpful to talk to someone else here who has also been referred and is waiting for an appointment. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you as you are waiting to find out more. I hope that you won't have to wait too long to be seen by a specialist. Try not to look anything up online if you can while you are waiting for your appointment as Dr Google is famously unreliable and will only exacerbate your anxiety.

We're keeping everything tightly crossed for you that you get some clarity on this soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I'm going through something similar. How did you get on?
