Google is not helping - swelling above left collar bone

Hello, I have been reading this forum and also searching all over the internet for days. I recently woke up one morning with swelling just above my left collar bone. I went to my GP who referred me as an urgent for an ultrasound of my neck. I had an examination at the hospital and they said there was a lump around 3cm x 4cm located in my supraclavicular fossa and confirmed I need an ultrasound. I have had a cough on and off for about 6 months and for the last few days I feel like I have something stuck in my throat. My glands aren't swollen under my chin which I would have thought would be if it was an infection. I have searched google for the last couple of days because I can't think about anything else, but it comes up with a different answer dependant on what my search is.

I just want to know what the chances are and I know I should just wait for the results, but its hard to not research it. Sorry just working myself up I think, I am sure it will be fine, I know it will but I don't understand why my glands wouldn't be enlarged or inflammed if it was that?

I am 32 years old,

Thank you

  • Yes, google cannot diagnose you, or give you a prognosis. Even if you break a fingernail, you get lots of pages, ranging from 'nothing to worry about' to 'why aren't you dead?' Which is not very helpful, or good for morale!

The test results could be great!  Do not forget that. But until you receive them, you have to distract yourself, and generally tough it out. Not easy! Discussing your worries with other people, whether friends and family, or members of this forum, may be a great help. Everyone on this forum knows what you are going through. You have all our sympathy and support. I wish you the very best. Harry
