Mole excision

Hi folks, I'm new here so this is my first post.  I had a mole removed on my back on Monday morning. The pain isnt too bad but oh my goodness the itch is intolerable!

I have to lie on the wound to try and get some relief from the pressure on it, and I'm being very bold scratching it with a hanger - as I can't reach the area with my hand.

Is this normal?

Any advice to reduce the itch would be much appreciated. I have a premipore dressing on but I'm almost sure it's the wound itself rather than an allergy to dressing.

  • Hi,

Itching of a surgical wound is usually the sign that it's healing. I can't suggest anything to help other than wrap a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel & place it on the area - make sure you don't get the dressing damp. If the skin surrounding the dressing starts to go pink it may be either an allergy to the dressing or an infection in the wound - in which case see your GP as you may need antibiotics.

I hope it settles down & you get clear results.
