Following a hospital admission last month with my mum for a bowel obstruction, the CT showed a nodule on her lung. She was referred to respiratory who engaged cancer team.
This was promptly followed up by a PET scan then a spiromerty test the following week. She was told she would get a letter in a fortnight.
Anxious wait - fortnight expired yesterday. Turns out the hospital called her last week to attend - she didn't. Looks like she forgot to tell me, although she is adamant no one called, but I spoke with the secretary who confirmed she did speak with my mum - but lately, she is forgetting appointments and when I tell her, it is like telling her for the first time. She is only 69 and doesn't have any memory issues - until this all started. She is on a lot of pain relief for existing illnesses.
My mum has many serious comorbidities and this development has totally thrown me. The consultant we are seeing tomorrow is the clinical lead for the lung cancer team. I can't see this being a good outcome. How do I prepare for this? My mum has a very blase attitude.
I'm thinking the worst and hoping for the best, but whatever words fall from his mouth, I must be strong for my mum.
