Scared out of my mind: stool streaked with blood.

Hi,

I have an appointment next Tuesday, but I might just lose my mind till then. Any advice, until I see the doc next Tuesday?

1.I have been dieting since 3 months ago and one month ago I started noticing white cotton/paper like stuff in the stool. This dissapeared eventually.

2. Two weeks ago, I was going to a store and while on my way there, I realized I might be having soon diarrhea. I had no possibility of going to a toilet due to the virus, so I 'held' it in. I was walking aprox 1.25 miles (2 kilometers), without a loo and I 'held' it in several times and it was a 'go back' kind of hold and I barely made it before an accident happened. After going to the toilet, the first part was solid, followed by diarrhea. I thought nothing strange of it since I was eating cherries and strawberries. But when trying to flush, I noticed a darker spot between the rest. The diarrhea continued and this time, I noticed some bright red thing between the pieces. It was very very little but it scared me a lot. I could also notice very little bright red blood on the TP.

My mind was telling me that this was caused by the 'no loo' situation, but regardless, I started watching before I flush.

3. The next few times, I thought it was normal, but I cannot tell for sure as I didn't watch with my phone's lantern. And this brings me to the present. After eating some fish in tomato sauce, I noticed that my next stool had some strange jelly like things that bound some pieces. The jelly had a reddish tint.

4. Today as I looked again, I could see clearly with the lantern that there are some faint streaks of blood which isn't bright red, but it is not black either. I also had a softer stool after, which wasn't exactly diarrhea, with the same streaks. As you can imagine I freaked out and I'm currently out of my mind. The last few times after the BM, my anus was stinging/burning. My stools aren't narrower than usual, but the last part seems to be a shade darker than the rest.

My personal history: Female, less than a month ago I turned 30. No family history. I don't drink nor smoke. I am not obese nor fat. I think I do suffer of constipation. When dieting I go aprox once or twice per week. Lately, I have been going every 2 or three days. Most of the time is solid, but sometimes it happens to be softer - but I do chew sugarfree gum, take magnesium and eat fruits.

  • Hi totally understand what you’re going through, I too turned 30 last month and have had bright red blood on and off. Today however I think the first pry or the last part of my stool was really dark, so investigated, as I smeared the stool was maroon red, I am beside myself with worry.

  • Did you have it looked at? Hopefully all is well for you.

    Update:

    1. So I had my appointment. The dr gave me no reassurance. She told me that due to my age, the invstigations don't begin with the most invasive stuff and sent me to do some lab work and had me to return with some stool sample to see exactly if it's blood.

    2. She did give me some treatment for internal hemorrhoids and said that we'll take it from my lab work and stool sample. Needless to say, I worry even more than before...

  • My situation is the same unfortunately, now getting back spasms.

I do think you have hemorrhoids, sounds a lot like hemorrhoids, try not to panic and remember bright red blood is usually associated with hemorrhoids.

  • Wishing you the best of luck and hoping it will turn out it's nothing you should worry about.

I don't have any kind of abdominal pain or even bloating; I've had days where I believe my stool was normal and days where I saw things.

I don't think I could qualify what I see as bright red, but it looks reddish? I don't even know anymore. Will have to see how the blood, markers, stool samples and everyhing else turns out. I hate needles and I also hope that I won't ruin or give incorrect samples of stool. All this uncertainty is not easy and I'm already stressed out to the limit.

I will provide updates, once I get my results and discuss it with my doctor.

  • I'm extremely scared. Today I saw clearly bright red blood on my stool. It was just two thin lines, but it is enough to scare me. My lab results aren't out yet, but I'm thinking  the worse. I also think that my stools are a little softer than usual. Not exactly diarrheea, the form is 'sausage', just softer... I did eat grilled squash and cherries yesterday, but that was unmistakably blood so I'm spiraling.

  • Hi,

sorry to hear what you are experiencing, unfortunately i am in the same position. Is there any way you can chase up the lab work?

  • No, I cannot do that. The doctor also asked for a Faecal calprotectin test and this one takes about a week for the results to come in. I will have to take all the test for interpretation at once. I also had to delay taking the stool samples as I also had my period, so I'm really not in a happy place.

I'm really really scared right now and thinking the worse. I also feel like with this virus situation the doctor stayed away from inspecting further and she  told me that if a colonoscopy is needed I will have to also be tested for Covid...

What about you? Have you gone to the doctor? Hopefully all is well for you.

  • Well hopefully results will come back soon for you. Its so worrying not knowing whats going on isnt it.

Yes i have, my symptoms are slightly different. Going to the toilet 10 plus times a day, fresh blood sometimes and then others its red blood/mucus in the stool, right sided stomach pain, near fainting etc. My stool samples and bloods all came back fine, but during rectal exam a lump was found so ive been reffered for an urgent colonoscopy but no word yet. If you would like to have a read i have put a post up in waiting on diagnosis, it explains it all in more detail.

Its such a worrying time isnt it, feel like all i do is sit on the toilet and can not wait until i find out what exactly is going on x

  • Hopefully it's nothing sinister. I had no rectal exam. Like I said, due to the virus situation, I felt like the doctor stayed away and basically sent me on my way to do the lab work. She tried to see my rectum with an abdominal ultrasound but there was no luck. It's so but so scary.

  • I’m spiraling too, today I saw very dark blood on my stool. The blood was sticky. At that moment all I could think about was oh my god I’m dying. Dark sticky blood can not be good !
