Hi, I'm a 35yr old woman, non-smoker, the odd drink with friends once or twice a month. Quick background, had IBS symptoms for most of my life, and had my gallbladder removed two years ago after having several attacks with gallstones.
Since the start of lockdown in April, my IBS symptoms flared up, and I went from having 3-4 liquid-like bowel movements per week to have one every day and that's been the case since. I have also lost about 4lbs in the past couple of months.
I spoke to my Dr who ordered blood and stool tests. The first blood showed slightly elevated amylase, so he ordered a second which was even more elevated. I now have to send off more stool samples as the first set were clear of any inflammation or infection.
I blurted out over the phone, asked if pancreatic cancer was possible. My Doctor said while it's rare, they cannot rule it out and I'm also being referred for an urgent ultrasound.
In many ways, my life is just beginning. My little boy is only 5 and I've overcome many years of covert abuse by family members. I know the stats, and I know if it's that cancer... there is little that can be done. My understanding is that it can cause a steady increase in Amylase over time which is matching with my experience.
I am so scared of leaving my little boy behind. He's my absolute world. I'm beyond terrified.
