Just looking to talk to people about their experiences

hi I’m 24 years old and due to have a colonoscopy in a couple days it’s becuase I have noticed blood on 2 occasions that have alarmed me since the start of lockdown and on several occasions where it has only been a small amount I have also suffered with extremely painful flare ups of diarhea and chronic stomach pains for a good few years now that have affected work and my normal life it makes me feel really poorly  hot flushes with it and nausea but this comes and goes and having lost my auntie at a young age to colon cancer and my grandad was a survivor and I have a large history of cancer within the family in general and many other stomach related illnesses I decided to be brave and get it looked into I’m more nervous about the prep than the procedure and I’ll be going in the hospital on my own due to Covid 19 so even more nervous just need some kind words haha thanks

Hi Charotte , just read your post and tbought id reach out to you, i know how nervous your feeling about your impending colonoscopy, when you read all about your procedure its a bit daunting , but ive had 39 of them and i always have sedation. You  are awake but it  calms you and they are usualy pain free , as they do give you a painkiller as well.

Yes the prep isnt nice and you will need to sit on the toilet for a long time , but do use a  cream around your bottom before you take the prep, as it helps you to stop getting sore.A good Nappy cream does  help  l, there is a bright  yellow cream  that the hospital told me to buy  as it helps a lot i cant remember the name but i think its something like Metanium  or  panthanol is another good cream to use.

I do hope evertthing goes well , and you let me know how you get on. X

  • Hi thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me I’m sat here eating my final bit of food ready for tomorrow and struggling to get it down because of how I feel with my anxiety I’m not sure now what I’m worrying about the most but I’ve actually been alright up until now just to double check it says on my list I can drink lucozade for sugar does that count today? I’ve planned ahead and was thinking of running a bath whilst I am taking the prep to help keep me clean and help with the pain (plus I’ll be right next to the loo) do you think this is a good idea? And of course I’ll be sure to update on how I get on :) thank you! X

    Hi Charlotte

I do hope you managed to eat some foods of the list of ptemitted foods.

I didnt see lucozade on the  permitted food  list  that ive prevously been given.i dont think any fizzy drinks are a good idea myself , i always make up a drink of marmite or bovril, as its clear and i like it, Marmite is tasty as a drink i put some in a cup and just add water, the warmth of the drink always soothes my stomsch.

A bath may help, but when you take the prep you will need the toilet a lot, your be on and off it for what seens like forever, so getting in and out of the bath might be a chore. I always have a warm soak in the barh before im due to leave to go to the hospital, but that is entirely up to you,if it helps do what ever suits you.

Your nerves are bound to kick in, ive had 39 and still get nervous its natural to feel this way.

Good luck and try some breathing excercises to calm you down, count to three and breath in slowly , hold your breath  for a while  and breath out and imagine all your fears and anxiety leaving your body as you breath out.. it helps me, so i hooe it helps you. X.
