Inverted Nipple at 22

Hi, I'm posting here to see if anyone has had similar issues.

I'm 22 years old and have recently noticed that when I'm lying down flat or when my arm is raised my right nipple seems to go flatter/mould into my breast. When I lift my left arm, my other nipple does go in/flatten slightly but not as much.

I have tried this a few times, and when my right nipple is erect it doesn't seem as bad. I do have anxiety and have sent myself into a complete panic over this thinking the worst. I'm hoping to get a GP apppintment tomorrow but not sure how likely that may be with the current situation.

Has anyone experienced similar or is this normal?

  • Hello Kaympee

I'm sorry to hear that you have this concern at the moment.

Did you manage to get in touch with your GP for some advice? I hope that they were able to offer you some reassurance. If you've not been able to speak to them yet, then do give them another call next week.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, I did get an appointment with my GP. He had a look and said he can notice a slight inversion when my arms are raised but ask he can't feel anything sinister he hasn't referred me for more tests.

At the time of my appointment my nipples were more erect than what they would be on resting (probably due to the cold area and being looked at) so he didn't see the inversion at its worst where it can properly sink into the skin. I did mention to him that it is usually more noticeable when my nipple isn't erect and especially when I am lying down.

Over the weekend I have taken pictures of my inverted nipple when it is most predominant and I am thinking of phoning back the gp tomorrow for a second opinion or for them to take a look at these images, as I know that a lump does not always need to be present and for peace of mind I would like it be checked properly.

  • Hello Sorry I know this post was over a year ago now but I was just wondering if you went and got a second opinion and how it went? Only i have a slit in 1 nipple that I was referred to breast clinic for and they took one look and said it was common however when I lie down they go completely flat and was just wondering about now getting a second opinion and would like to know how you got on x
  • Hello!

Hope both of you are well.
Was wondering how you both got on? I have these symptoms also. 24, 3 months post partum, presumed it was to do with that!

  • Hello

so the first time I was referred for the slit nipple they took one look and said it was absolutely normal and nothing at all to worry about, a year down the line and I had white discharge coming from the Same nipple so again I went back and was referred again they looked and said they don't think it's discharge could be debris getting in there and it's all absolutely normal but they are sending me for a scan to just put my mind and ease but they was pretty certain it's absolutely nothing but I've been waiting 3 weeks so far and still have no appointment date ...I think it's down to have my baby as it seemed to only happen once I had had him but it's always best to get checked to be 100% certain it's better to be safe than sorry
