Bleeding everyday

Hi, I was having problems that started maybe a year and a half ago where I started bleeding during/after sex pretty much everytime then I started bleeding lightly more often that usual now the past 2 months or more I've just bled everyday, some days is light and some days are more but it's every single day. Gp got me to do some swabs to make sure I didn't have an sti or infection (which I didn't think I had anyway) and they came back negative. Gp got me in yesterday for an examination and she said there was bleeding on the cervix but they don't have the best equipment so is referring me to the hospital so they can have a better look and probably do a smear test. She didn't give me much information of what it could be or what the hospital is going to do and I'm just a bit worried and Its also awkward just everyone looking at your vagina and I guess I'm a bit worried because I don't know what will happen when I go, I've not had a smear test yet but I'm just 25 and I don't have much information. If anyone could shine some light on this or if it could potentially be cancer?

Thanks

  • Hi nataliem,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's certainly natural to feel a little worried and unsettled when there is this uncertainty. Unfortunately no-one here can advise what the issue may be, but it's good to hear you've got it checked out. I hope it's not too long to wait for your appointment and that you can get some answers soon. I know these things can be uncomfortable but the doctors are well used to this and it's always best to get answers.

I'm not sure what exactly will be involved at your appointment but if it is a smear test as you have said, then you can read a little more about that on our website here.

It may help to try to keep your mind off things prior to your appointment and to keep busy. As I say I hope it's not much longer to wait for this.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
