Lingual tonsil

I have had a swollen right tonsil since December 2019. I have had 2 sets of antibiotics and they have not sorted the issue out. I saw a ENT specialist on 27 February who said I had tonsillitis and I explained at this point it had been 2 months. He advised he would remove my tonsils if they were still in this state on my next visit. A month later we got lockdown so I did not get my appointment.  My pain has been unbearable so I called my doctor and she kindly wrote to the hospital for me . To cut a long miserable story short I had a MRI and I have been told I have a lingual tonsil on the right side which is causing me to remove black phlegm first thing of a morning.  I begged the surgeon to remove this tissue but she refused said I need antibiotics and she would post them . It's been a long weekend as my prescription has not turned up and I am as normal in pain. I am terrified I have the start of throat cancer cant get to see a doctor or a specialist.  Bad times

  • Hello Ollysyard,

I'm sorry you've been experiencing these pains. When you are worried that you may have cancer, it's best to speak to your doctor about any concerns you have. They are the only person who can diagnose you. As you can imagine, there is a high demand for health services so here are some tips to get the best out of your appointments.

I hope you get your antibiotics soon and that they are able to help.
