Found a breast lump, waiting for appointment next week

Hi All,

I found a small hard lump in my left breast earlier this year, a few cm's above my nipple and it doesn't move, it's like it's stuck to my chest. I convinced myself it was nothing but obviously as time went on I got more anxious about it but also got too scared to get it checked out. Then about a month ago I started to get a dull pain and itchiness (on the inside) in my lower left breast. I think the pain, although not usually a symptom of cancer (so I hear) prompted me to finally get it checked.

I went to the GP this week and my screening is next friday. They could be two seperate things and both could be minor things but I'm freaking out that something's really wrong. It might be paranoia but my left breast feels different to my right, like something shouldn't be in there. I'm 29 so again, keep being told it's probably non cancerous cyst or growth but doesn't stop me from freaking out daily! I haven't told my family either, as I don't want to give them something to worry about, unless it is something to worry about. I haven't been told what kind of scan I'm having either but I presume it's an ultrasound.

  • I'm too in the waiting game, had terrible pain when lie on right breats in bed on on closer examination found a hard lump under my nipple, around 1cm  ( quite deep into breast and not moving ) Dr referred me and on waiting list because apparently no appointments at the moment and waiting on releasing new appointments . They received referral on 14th May and no date received yet. Feel sick with worry and just hope my date comes soon. Been told 2 weeks usually but not looking like Ill get an appointment soon. I too havent shared this news with my family , only my husband as dont want  to worry my daughters/ mam more so than they are ( im shielding due to health ) . I hope your appointment goes well and all ok . Do you have a friend to talk to / confide in ?

  • Thank you for replying!

I live with my partner so he knows, and I've spoken to a couple of friends. I'll not tell anyone else until after the appointment. I'm hoping after a scan and possible biopsy that It'll not be serious and I can get on with life again! I can't focus on anything at the moment and lately feeling breathless but I think that is literally from anxiety!

I hope you get an appointment soon x

  • Hey! I have the same thing, they said it feels like glandular tissue but referred me to get it checked just in case. I’m 20 so I’m really worried. Apparently 1 in 8 lumps are not cancerous and if it hasn’t grown or your Gp hasn’t noticed any inflamed lymp nodes you should be okay. That’s what I was told anyway. Hope this helps x

  • Hey, thanks for replying.

Well, before I went to the GP they called me and I spoke to a Dr and she said on the phone it's likely to be fibroadenoma due to my age. But when I went to my GP appt, it was a different Dr and she didn't say anything. Nothing to worry me but nothing reassuring either, just that she could feel it too and I'd be seen within 2 weeks. as I said in my post I have other things going on with this breast besides the lump too so not helping.

Hope you get your appointment soon and hopefully it's what they say it is.

  • I meant to say 1 in 8 is cancerous not the latter, so the odds really are in our favour. Mine didn’t say much either. My appointment is in two weeks! Have you got yours yet?

  • Yeah I knew what you meant! :)

2 weeks that's good, fingers crossed for you!

Yeah mine is next friday the 29th, so super quick, 10 days between GP referral and appt.

  • So my appointment is this afternoon. Havent slept much and trying to keep calm but its hard!

The pain and itching has gone, lump still there. A few times recently ive noticed that the top of the nipple (below where my lump is) indents slightly, but it doesnt show all the time? I hope the fact that its not there all the time is a good sign but ill mention it at the clinic.

  • How did your appointment go, Im still waiting for referral, from 14th May , rang them

today and said still awaiting new appointments releasing

  • Hi!

It all went fine! I was told it was normal fibrous tissue and probably hormonal due to my age. The consultant was confident it was all fine but offered a scan anyway. Though the only scanned the one breast, just confirming it was nothing and I was sent on my way.

Very relieved but its made me realise how important it is to get these things checked asap.

Hope you get your appt soon and it turns out fine x
