Lump or skin tag swelling gynae question

I have had a sensation of feeling raw at the at front of my labia, ( or there abouts, it's hard for me to tell)  and been a bit itchy there too and have discovered the bit that is tender and there is a growth that looks a bit like how a skin tag does.  Have seen GP and she has said she would feel happier if l was seen by a specialist although may not be anything of real concern because of the fact that there is discomfort and the growth feels relatively smooth. When l asked roughly how long this would take to happen she said ' I will be marking it as urgent but not urgent urgent'. What does that mean though?  And has anyone else experienced something similar? I am a woman in her 60.'s. Further to this, tonight there was pink streaks on the toilet paper coming from where the lump is. Starting to worry this is something sinister but trying not to let my imagination run away with me.

  • Hello bde987,

It sounds like your GP is being thorough and it's good that you have been referred to a specialist to have this looked at properly. I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have had this experience too before and that they will be along to share their story with you.

It might be worth giving your GP a call tomorrow and mentioning that you noticed pink streaks on the toilet paper recently coming from where the lump is and whether this is something you should be concerned about. It would be a good idea to mention this to the specialist too when you have your appointment.

You are right to try not to overthink this at the moment and to simply wait until you see your doctor and find out more. It can be tempting to look things up on google but this will inevitably yield unreliable results and make you worry even more. So the best thing to do in the meantime is to try and keep busy and focused on other things which I know is easier said than done! It won't be long though before you see a specialist and find out exactly what is going on.

Best of luck with your appointment and best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie, thanks for that.  After seeing my GP on Friday and being told that she would like me to see someone at the hospital to get things properly checked over, the Hospital phoned me this morning (Wed)and l now have an appointment for next Tuesday.   Quite surprised my appointment will be only 10 days after l initially saw my GP.   She told me she would be doing an urgent referral but it wasn't       urgent urgent .  So l was quite surprised it's all happening so quickly.     Does that mean my GP suspects there is something wrong or is it just normal practice to refer every woman (of my age)with a small lump?     I just hate the thought that l could be wasting folks time, but hopefully it will show that that all is ok, and l can just get on with things.  Thanks for your support
