Testicle and kidney scan, help needed.

Hello there,

My 20 year old son found a small lump in one of his testicles, he saw a urology consultant who took bloods to check for tumour markers and referred him for an ultrasound scan of his testicles. He had the scan today and is a little perturbed because as well as scanning his testicles they scanned his kidneys.  Has anyone experienced this and is it standard procedure. I’m getting worried because I’m thinking maybe something showed up in the blood tests.

  • Hi Steggers1970

I'm sorry to hear that your son has been having some investigations recently. It's not unusual for Consultants to request for more than one area to be scanned and as these areas are all connected it doesn't seem unusual that your son has had his kidneys scanned as well.

It's natural to be worried whilst waiting for tests and results but hopefully your son won't have to wait too long for the results.

If it would help to talk to one of our nurses then you're welcome to call them. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (exc. bank holidays).

    Best wishes,

  • That’s very reassuring, thank you. I think because he was only expecting a testicle scan he was a little thrown when they scanned his kidneys as well.
