Hi everyone,
Last week I found a lump in my right breast along with some swelling . Over the weekend I began to feel sick and had a high temperature and because I'm breastfeeding, the doctor said I had mastitis over the phone without checking so I began antibiotics. The initial redness , high temperature and nausea wore off but over the next few days, my breast was engorged , hot and painful. So I headed to the GP who said I have two blocked ducts. She said that the lump I had found was movable, defined and definitely not cancer. She said cancer feels like a hard lump. I told her about my breast looking engorged and almost pitted and I expressed my fear of inflammatory breast cancer. She said the skin was like this because my breast is so engirged and it's stretched the skin. She said to keep taking the antibiotics and said the lumps are definitely not cancer but she would refer me so that the nurse could use the ultrasound machine to put my mind at ease.
yesterday, I went back to another doctor and mentioned inflammatory breast cancer. She said that the lumps are most likely blocked ducts and said if she had to put money on it she would put it on a blocked duct . She also carried out blood tests that all came back normal. She said the breast clinic referral will put my mind at ease and because my mum got diagnosed 3 months ago with cancer it made sense to reassure me.
I then seeked a 3rd opinion from a doctor over the phone who said I should trust the GP and I'm theorizing the inflammatory breast cancer in my head.
I literally cannot function, I'm worried sick. I'm only 30 and breastfeeding but my Aunty died of inflammatory breast cancer 10 years ago and my mum has just been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer not inflammatory. The more I think about it the worse it gets! I'm almost too scared to go to the breast clinic. Should I trust the GP? She was confident it wasn't cancer and I said if I come back in a week with the lump will you think it's cancer then and she said no.
thank you
