Hi im going through something similar about 4 weeks ago i was sent home from work had raging sore throat high fever etc was put on antibiotics cleared up pretty quickly but as soon as the antibiotics finished it was back not as bad i then had a second lot of antibiotics went again finished now its back. My left tonsil is sore when i swallow & has white patches also burning sensation at the back of throat im also on omeprozole for acid reflux ive googled mysrlf into a panic & convinced myself its cancer i have another phone consultation friday morning but until im seen by a doctor i dont think the worry will go.

Im in a similar position, I pushed and pushed with my GP, he done the referral, within a couple of days the ENT consultant called me, he said they werent seeing any patients at the moment but he would book me in for an ultrasound and MRI as Ive had a 3.5cm lymph node in my neck since 23 March and now a strange very fast growing thing on my tonsil (I call it my mutant), the tonsils themselves are not swollen.  Tomorrow Im due to get my US biopsy and MRI though wont get results for a few weeks and by telephone.  I would keep on to your GP to do urgent referral, maybe ring the ENT department if the referral already done.  If they still will not see you maybe ask your GP if they know of another hospital locally that are seeing patients.
