Quite a large lump on the outside left of face

Hi, my daughter is 27 and has a lump the size of a 50p on her outside left cheek around the jaw line. She has had it for several weeks now and although she has spoken to a doctor about it and been given 2 courses of antibiotics, they haven’t worked and due to the current coved circumstances has been unable to physically see the doctor. The lump has gotten slightly bigger and redder and sorer. The doctor has given her another course of antibiotics and she is scared to take them as she has heard taking too many antibiotics is not safe. Please can you help?

  • Hello Gormley
I'm sorry to hear that your daughter has been unwell recently. It's not uncommon for Dr's to prescribe antibiotics for more than one course. Many people are on long term antibiotics for chronic conditions and I'm sure that your daughters GP wouldn't have prescribed them if he felt it wasn't safe.

If your daughter really is concerned about taking the medication then she should get back in touch with the surgery who will be able to offer advice.

    Best wishes,

  • Many thanks for your reply, it's very much appreciated, and it has put our minds a bit at ease. You hear so many stories, and this was why I thought it would be well worth my while contacting you.

    Thank you again.
