Thyroid

Hello. I'm new here, I have not been diagnosed of anything yet. I saw my doctor today as I've had a swelling in my neck for about a month now with a sore throat and over the last couple of days I've started itching. I'm booked in for blood tests today and he said I will need a scan. I'm terrified it could be some kind of thyroid cancer. Has anyone else had the same symptoms. Thanks x

  • Hello Eviegrace and welcome to the forum
I'm sorry to hear that you've had this swelling and sore throat to deal with recently. It sounds as if your GP is being thorough in asking for these tests to try and establish what is causing your symptoms.

We know that waiting for tests can be a difficult time and it's natural to worry about what the results may be. However it's important to remember that there could be many different reasons for your symptoms so please try to stay positive and hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the tests.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply. I've had my blood tests this Tuesday hopefully they won't take to long getting back to me.

  • Hi hun!

im going through the same thing. My bloods came back normal and they told me to wait 4 weeks and have another look. Only the fact in two weeks my whole neck and another lump has appeared and swelled up. Going back to the doctors this week and hoping I have an ultrasound. Hope everything is ok with you! Keep me updated.

  • Hi. Sorry for the late reply had so much going on. Not only this issue but after 22 years of marriage my husband decides it's the right time to tell me he doesn't love me double whammy. It's a worrying time not knowing whats going on. My bloods came came normal to but 4 weeks is a long time to wait. My doctor isn't in till tomorrow so il be calling then. Let's try to stay positive although I know it's hard. Let's hope we get the right tests done quickly to determine what's going off. Take care hun. Happy to chat anytime  x

  • Hi Eviegrace,

im in the same situation. I found a lump in my neck and my voice was going croaky while I was singing a song.
I rang my GP, video call and then I was seen in person. Bloods done and urgent referral for an ultrasound. 1 week later I had the ultrasound, my GP then phoned to say they had the results and I was put on a 2 week wait to see a consultant. Due to the current situation I had a phone call from the consultant 1 week later who requested another ultrasound and a possible FNA. I had this done 2 weeks ago and I get my official results over the phone tomorrow. I have spoken to my GP who says it has come back as follicular neoplasm but she doesn't really know what the outcome will be.
I'm guessing I'll know more tomorrow. I'm really nervous about what the consultant will say, I assist in operating theatres anyway as my job but its all a bit different when it's happening to you.
I hope you get sorted very soon. Take care.

  • My Swelling and lumps been here since February. GP Tried to refer me for routine 18 week ultrasound but due to covid nothing is being run until later this year. I had to go to a&e due to pressure on my breathing and neck pain and told me to go through GP and you're fine because bloods are fine! so at the stage where I've been told GP can't do anymore and I've been referred there's no other option but to wait however parents have offered to pay for private ultrasound so that's what we are doing tomorrow. Also have had a clump of "lymphnodes appear" we think are lymphs that aren't there on the other side which are worrying so :((

  • Glad everything is moving very quick for you xx

  • Aww that's really rubbish.
I suppose each GP is different, she said she would send it as a 2WW for the scan because she wanted it doing due to how it presented but also because they are taking a long time to do them. I'm so pleased I did get seen to quickly. I can feel it pressing on my trachea.
I hope you get seen to quickly, I looked at going private for surgery but prob won't be any quicker

    Take care x

  • I think parents are fast tracking through private just so I'm seen then the NHS will take over regarding if it's anything sinister or cysts etc. My GP's haven't been fab really but I just have this weird gut feeling somethings not right it's like instinct it's really strange. I have lots of symptoms too :( it's hard when you feel no ones listening to you. They tried to get me for a 2WW but consultants have refused to see me despite all my symptoms ?? It's really strange where I live.

im so sorry for your diagnosis. I hope things look out for you. When is your surgery planned etc? Everything is slow atm because of covid but I hope they manage to treat you quickly xx

  • I hope you get sorted soon. It's horrible when you just don't know.
My surgery should be in the next 3 months due to covid. They have to discuss my case in a team meeting and go from there. Hopefully surgery before the end of September beginning of December.
Keep us posted on how you get on please x
