It's really scary, waiting to be tested .. my first four call backs from mamorgrams were all clear... and I'd panicked on each one .. one lump felt like a flat pebble... a couple were like pea size.. one was sore to touch, one was painless .. they were all o.k .. 

Try to keep in mind 8.5 out of ten are o.k ... and the younger you are , the better the percentage... so it's very rare .. not impossible... but very rare .. so try to keep that in mind .. try not to do the what ifs .. and goggle, or that makes it all overwhelming... 

My last test was positive ... and I had a grade three... that was nearly three years ago... I came on here and started chatting to another 5 or 6 others all with Brest cancer, different stages and treatments.. we helped each other through .. most have gone back to their life post cancer... a couple of us have stayed to chat to those waiting like you .. wer all still here, nearly three years later ... so even if it is positive there's lots of us living to tell the tail .. so hold on in there .. keep as busy as possible... it's the waiting that's the worse ..  so let us know how you go ... I'm in a similar situation - had my GP appt on Friday and the breast clinic rang me this afternoon. My appointment is on the 27th. My lump is about 4cm, hard, a bit lumpy and non moveable, and my nipple has inverted. I'm 46. The GP wasn't positive in my case.

As Chriss said most referrals turn out to be ok, and even if they find something most cancers are treatable. I understand cysts are often moveable so that could be positive, plus your younger age. Of course people can reassure you all they want but until you know for certain the worry will be there.

Do you have friends you can talk to? Mine have been a great support. I'm still finding it helpful to come on here though!

I have told only told one friend and my partner knows as we live together. Apart from that one person in my work knows as I was a mess trying to sort a GP this morning and they were concerned for me. Haven't heard about my appointment yet not even sure what to expect a letter or a call.

The sooner the better as I am not a very nice person right now since I found the lump on friday. I have been in a awful mood and snappy to be around. I am quite anxious about things anyway and tend to over think most things so am sure that's not helping ! 

How did you receive you appointments ?

I tried to see my GP but instead got a triage call from the nurse then a telephone call from the GP. He asked me alot of questions then said he didn't think he would need to see me as it wouldn't change the route he was going. He said I would hear about an appointment within 2 days and be seen within 2 weeks. I honestly wish he would have seen me to offer some reassurance that actually it feels fine and this is just to rule out any other possibilities. I don't know of its to late to ask for a face to face just any reassurance would be better than none. I have read all the stats I know how unlikely it is to be cancer but i guess your mind naturally goes towards the worst! 

I agree it's the waiting that is the worst hopefully Wednesday comes round quickly for you !

I know what you mean about your mind going to the worst - I'm a chronic catastrophiser!! There isn't really anything anyone can say but I find it helps to chat to people on here going through similar fears.

It's good that your GP referred you as really only the breast clinic can say for definite what a lump is. If you'd seen the GP in person it probably wouldn't have reassured you all that much, at least not for long!! You'd still be panicking almost as soon as you got home because the GP can't actually know...!

As you say you know the stats and most referrals are nothing serious. At least the GP didn't dismiss you and you'll have an appointment quickly (even though like me it will feel like eternity I'm sure!). 

It must be extra hard for you though, with your dad going through treatment. How is he getting on and how is his outlook?

I have been so busy with work only just got to checking on this. I did I have my appointment on Monday the 1st . I have chilled out alot now.

Sorry for the delay in replying, it's been a rollercoaster couple of weeks - not just the breast stuff but loads going on in my personal life too :/

I had an ultrasound, mammogram and core needle biopsy at my appointment on the 27th, and had to go back on June 3rd for a fine needle biopsy on my other breast as they found calcification spots. Both biopsies really hurt!! I've got an appointment this Friday (12th) for the results. The consultant said 'it's not looking good' about the lump, but on the plus side the ultrasound showed no signs of any spread to my lymph nodes.

How did your appointment go? And have you had any news of your results?

Hi !! 

My appointment was fine I ended up having a breast exam with the surgeon, followed by an ultrasound and a core needle biopsy. The team were lovely and I actually didnt find the biopsy painful at all with minimal bruising. 

They seemed fairly confident that it is a fibroadenoma but have sent of a biopsy just incase. I dont have my appointment until the 17th of june to get my results but have reassured me that if it is bad news they will be intouch before hand. 

I really hope your results are more positive than they are making out !!
