Raised lymph nodes - Ultrasound all clear

Just wanted to update as I found it really helpful when other users did this.

I have what feels like a small matted cluster of nodes on the side of my neck (cervical nodes I think), slightly smaller than pea-sized each but definitely at least two together, and then another pea-sized one an inch lower nearer my collar bone, but not a supraclavicular. Cluster has been there about a month at this point, and hasn't shrunk. I also have enlarged glands under my jaw on both sides, they feel firm and quite bulky compared to the nodes lower down on my neck.

Had a Dr appointment and she said the nodes were enlarged, it was due to an illness I had weeks ago and they seemed fine. Also had a blood test which came back fine, blood count normal.

Just had an ultrasound, got a private referral and a private scan. I'm not rolling in cash but I was driving myself mad using the NHS, I have bad health anxiety and just needed this issue sorted before it got out of hand.

Great news, the ultrasound went really positively, the wonderful doctor let me look at the screen and explained that the nodes I could feel usually live several inches under the skin, but they'd been raised due to infection and WOULD PROBABLY NEVER GO DOWN, which I feel is a very important point as I've been driving myself mad waiting for them to disappear. He said they all look fine, I'm to check them again in two months to make sure they haven't grown, and then he told me to forget about them. He told me I must stop prodding them though, or I would irritate them further and they might swell as a result.

For reference, I haven't suffered any other symptoms like night sweats or continual fever, and none of my lumps ever got past the 1cm size.

Wishing everyone the best of luck with their journeys, whatever stage they're at x

  • I wish my Dr had told me that they might never go down. I've had a scan and he said the were normal but I've still been stressing and waiting for them to go down. Mine were linked to having the covid vaccination. Have the second jab tomorrow so wondering what will happen to them then!

  • Hello!

I had something similar to this lump/swollen lymph nodes on left collarbone, swelling was rather big after the covid jab but 6 months later they are still there but smaller. Bloods come back with slightly higher white blood cells but doctors weren't overly worried as was only just over 'normal'

They sent me for a ultrasound scan and I had it today, he was super quick which worried me as was wondering if he was thorough enough (but that's just my anxiety playing up I think)  he said he doesn't see anything worrying and looks normal, he said that it's just benign lymph nodes that may not go down. He asked if they have changed and I said they go up and down but don't stay 'big' he said that's a good thing and to just make sure they don't get bigger in the next few months.

Anyone had this news yet still feel anxious? Ive been so so stressed so I was expecting to feel really happy! I'm guessing I can go back to normal now and try and forget about them?!

Wishing everyone good luck who has had the same! :)

  • I've had the exact same thing. A large lump on left side (above collarbone) and smaller lumps going higher up my neck.

I recently lost my Dad to cancer and it had spread to his lymph nodes by the time we discovered he had cancer.

I was obviously worried (especially with him being just 57)

I had my covid jab a few weeks before I noticed the lumps and it was only because I had shoulder pain that I felt the largest lump.

My doctor sent me for a chest xray and a neck ultrasound and both came back fine.

They have suggested that many people are experiencing raised lymph nodes after having the covid jab. As long as they dont grow any bigger it's nothing to be concerned about.

Mine are still here, approximately 5 weeks after noticing them (around 8 wks since I had my jab) they haven't changed in size at all.

I'm now wondering what will happen with the 2nd covid jab?

  • Hello!

Just thought i would check in and see if your lymph nodes went down on collarbone?

Mine are still raised after nearly a year of having my first dose. Had the 2nd jab in my right arm this time and had no reaction.

Not sure what to do. I may go back and get a 2nd opinion.

  • Hi,

Mine is still enlarged after nearly a year, I have had several scans on it due to having a history of cancer,

Did you have a different vaccine for your second? Or have you checked deep in armpit (that's were mine were raised it was the gp that found them on a routine apt, they are in such an awkward place I don't know if I'd have ever noticed them) I read an article that said depending on how high in your arm the injection is made is where the lymph nodes could be swollen, ie if higher it affects collarbone.

Also you could have had an immune response to your first jab but not so much your second maybe?
No harm to get a second opinion though.

    Regards,
