Dull ache back of head, New nausea

Hi, I've recently been getting a dull ache at the back of my head, I had it a few weeks ago along with aching neck, shoulders and upper back. It did go away. However last Thursday I started with a headache and from then on I've had this dull pressure ache at the back of my head at the bottom. I've got aching shoulders and upper back/neck. That feels sore. It's not going away at all I've tried a few different things now and spoken to the doctor over the phone twice. I dont know what it could be. I've turned to Google and now I'm in a panic. Today I've started feeling Nauseous too. Which has worried me.

I've been furloughed from work for the past 4 weeks and that is when it started around then so could it simply just be with my sitting around the house more its affected or possibly strained my posture. I dont know.

The doctor and pharmacists that I've spoke to think it could be muscular like I've strained it etc. But just something doesnt feel right and it's really worrying me incase it is something more serious.

My anxiety over this is getting worse and worse. I feel awful.

  • Hi,

You don't say how old you are. In my 50s I started with the same problem & it also caused dizziness. I had scans as we were worried that my cancer had returned and spread to the brain. However, everything was clear but it did show natural degeneration (due to age) in the discs at the top of my spine. It appears that this can either trap a nerve that goes into the head & it causes the head & neck & shoulder pain. My dizziness is because it traps a blood vessel that carries blood to the brain. The disc degeneration isn't helped if I am stressed as I hold stress in my neck & shoulders - tense muscles don't help the upper spine.

I suggest you try to look online for exercises you can do to relax & stretch your upper spine, neck & shoulders & also try some meditation - You Tube has lots you can try. This may help you relax &, if it is a muscular/spine problem, may ease your symptoms. Once lock down is over you could try a head, neck & shoulder massage to see if it helps. Otherwise, if nothing improves over the next few weeks, get back in touch with your GP. Remember that anxiety causes tense muscles, which cause pain in the upper body, which cause anxiety - it's a vicious circle. Good luck,

    Angie

  • Thankyou so much for your reply. I've just got back from the hospital I went to A&E as I wasnt feeling great. I've had my bloods done and a scan. So I'm trying to take reassurance that they came back all fine and clear. The blood and xray were both fine.

I was examined by multiple people and everything seemed fine I've had lots of obs done my temperature, pulse, blood pressure etc and it was all fine.

I must try and relax now.

Hope you're well, thanks again x
