Worried about anal cancer

Hi, I'm a 19year old that's had pain when going to the toilet now for a few months. I understand the COVID situation has made it hard for the GPs to see people but I have called 4 times after the creams and suppositories haven't worked and they keep saying to wait. I am starting to get worried as I know I am young but it's not normal to experience pain for so long. I'm scared the delay in even examining what the problem is instead of guessing could mean if I do have cancer it's found at a later stage. Just looking for any advice or shared experiences that could help. Thanks

  • Hi Shapd,

I'm sorry about your symptoms, but hopefully you'll be given an appointment soon. Here's some information on the best ways to access your GP during this pandemic, if you'd like to read. When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers on an online forum, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better.  And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor.

I hope this helps and try not to worry,

  • Hi, thanks for your reply.
I know the best thing to do is wait for a GP to diagnose but they have already told me they won't see me and to wait for a month until things open back up again.
