Painless lump right armpit

Hi,

I recently posted to say that I had found a lump in my right armpit which was painless. I have no other symptoms or lumps in my breasts.

I have since visited a GP who prescribed me a weeks worth of antibiotics. This unfortunately hasn't worked and the lump is still there. It is a 1cm pea sized lump and the GP was unsure on whether it was a cyst, boil or lymph node.

She referred me to another GP for a breast examination. I attended this appointment, no breast examination took place, however this GP re-examined the lump and advised I did not meet the criteria for an Urgent 2 week wait referral as I am only 20 years old. I had my bloods done last week and all can back normal no action.

He has now referred me for a non-urgent 2 week wait appointment as I do not fit the criteria.

As you can imagine I am absolutely terrified and I can't seem to occupy my mind on to something else. I'm trying to stay positive in the fact my bloods come back as normal and the referral is non urgent.

But I'm not sure whether I should be panicking or not?

Thank you in advance for any advice given x

  • Hi Kayleigh,

just wanted to reply as I'm also 20 and have recently found a lump in my right breast so can completely understand how you're feeling. I have been convincing myself that it is something bad and can't stop crying. I have a breast clinic appointment on Thursday so will let you know how that goes. Try and stay positive as we're both really young and there's lots of reasons we can get lumps in our boobs and armpit area, such as cysts. I know how hard it is tho to not worry, always here to talk.

  • Hi Cait,

Thank you for getting back to me,

honestly it's an absolute nightmare I've sobbed my heart out 100 times, and been on google researching it which I know I shouldn't do, it just doesn't seem like I'm getting straight answers to any of the questions I have. I haven't had my appointment yet as apparently my appointment is non urgent but I need to be seen within 2 weeks.

I'm hoping it's just a cyst or fatty tissue.

but thank you so much I really appreciate it.

hoping and praying it all goes okay for you lovely x

  • Yeah it is so difficult to not worry and search google when you're desperate to know what's causing it. I've stopped doing that now and I've just been reading people's posts on here. It makes me feel better reading that people have been referred and the outcome was nothing serious.  It's also a positive thing that your GP did a non-urgent referral, as that suggests that they don't think it's anything to worry about. It's good that we've gone to get our lumps checked, even if it makes it feel more scary and real. Please try not to worry as hard as it is, because worrying won't change anything. It'll just rob you or your happiness in the mean time whilst you wait to find out. (I'll also try and follow my own advice haha). Just know you're not alone with feeling like this. Praying everything will be ok for you too and I'm sure it will be! Xx

  • Yeah your completely right,

I normally never worry about anything, but for some reason this has really struck me, I think it's just with everything going on in the world that's made me focus on it more.

Whatever it is we will be strong enough to get through it all. I'll keep you updated too, if you need to chat though or just need a friend, just give me a message I'm always happy to talk.

    All the best x

  • Definitely, being stuck at home all day leaves us with nothing to do apart from worry!! Will give you an update on Thursday, speak soon lovely xx

  • Hi chick,

how did your appointment go? I've been thinking about you x

  • Hi lovely, my appointment yesterday was great, everything fine!! My right breast just had benign fibrous changes so that's the hard lump I could feel but it's all fine and normal! I had an ultrasound and the nurse there was amazing. Cait xx

  • Ahhh amazing!!

I'm so happy for you!! I'm still waiting for my appointment as they don't have clinics on at the moment! Nightmare, hopefully be put out of my misery soon Xx

  • Please try not to worry Kayleigh, I spent the last 2 weeks crying in bed convincing myself of the worst. I was googling everything and worrying that I'm going to die etc!! It turned out to be absolutely fine, I just had a really hard lump in my boob which was just hard fibrous tissue that felt more prominent. The chances of your lump being anything sinister are so so low. I know how scary and worrying it is. My boyfriend and family were telling me it's absolutely fine and I wouldn't believe them at all. Last year I also went to my GP because I had a hard lump on my armpit that wouldn't go away and he said it was just a blocked gland, so I'm sure yours will be something similar. You will feel so much more relaxed when you go to the clinic, they're so friendly and reassuring in there xxx

  • Hey! I’m 20 too! I found a lump two weeks ago and just got it checked out by the Gp. They said that they think it’s just glandular tissue but they’ve given me an urgent 2 week referral. I’m really worried now because you’ve said that you don’t meet the criteria. Hope everything is okay:)
