Abnormal bleeding

Hi guys. I'm confused and dont know what's going on so wondered if any one had experienced anything similar.

To start, I have had a pelvic exam and an ultrasound scan which I was told where normal.

Since December 19, so over 5 months I have been bleeding and experience pretty continuas lower back and pelvic pain , varies from period type pain to stabbing pains and most of the pain tends to centre around my left side. The bleeding tends to be like a light to medium period, I have had 2 or 3 days where it is spotting then goes back to proper bleeding.

My GP has eventually sent an urgent referral to see a gynacologist but because of how everything is right now I'm not getting far with getting an appointment.

After 5 months I am completely miserable and would appreciate any help or input anyone can give.

Thankyou so much. Rebecca. X

  • Hi Rebecca,

Thought I'd reply and hopefully give you a little bit of reassurance.

Approx just over a year ago, I also experienced abnormal bleeding inbetween periods and after sex. I was really worried but ignored it as otherwise I was young and healthy. In January this year like you I started experiencing bad cramping and lower back pain to the point I had to go to A&E I was so worried. My GP brushed me off several times however was eventually referred to gynaecology after I explained how concerned I was.

Turned out I had a very mild case of ectropian! Mine was very very mild and caused me all those pains and issues and yours sounds very similar. I was treated in the same appointment within 5 minutes and haven't had any further problems since.

Before I was told about ectropian, a doctor in A&E did mention the possibility of a condition caused endometriosis another treatable condition.

I assume you've come to the cancer chat as like me you suspect the worst and are sick with worry but chances of it being anything like cancer are so rare and it's likely to be caused by something much more common.

Your Gyno will only have to take 1 look and should be able to tell you exactly what the issue is.

I wish you all the best, I hope that I've put your mind at ease a little bit

    Jess x

  • Thanks so much for your reply. I did read it and ment to reply earlier

I had my appointment 11 days ago , I had an internal scan , they also took an endometrial biopsy which I really wasnt prepared for and they took quite a bit of blood for different things. Apparently womb was slightly enlarged but not massively. Was hoping to have results back by now, hopefully this week. Xx

  • Hi everyone. I have been of Birth control for over 3 years now and have had irregular periods since, just recently from beginning of March I have been bleeding between periods with a lot of brown blood also this happend throughout March to may, had one month without bleeding in between but now it's started again ranging from fresh blood to dark. I have a smear test tomorrow. Blood test and ultrasound was clear. Has anyway experienced this when not on any form of birth control. My anaxiety is getting the better of me.
