Breast Pain Anxiety

Hi,

I’ve been feeling really stressed out lately with some pain I’ve experienced and wanted to post here to see if anyone else has had similar symptoms.

I started to get breast pain around 10 months ago and noticed a small lump in my right breast. I saw the GP three times before being referred to the breast clinic. At first the lump was so small it was difficult to find and my GP seemed to think it was a small cyst. Along with the lump I’m having extreme pain in my breast, upper arm, shoulder blade and right side by rib cage so I had other tests for possible things such as gallstones which came back clear.

The breast clinic was reassuring and they said it wasn’t anything serious and noted to my GP it could be Fibroadenomas. However, whilst I should feel reassured I still can’t beat the anxiety there’s something wrong with me as I really don’t feel right in myself.

Now the lump has gotten bigger and I can feel it all the time and it hurts so badly when it’s pressed, the pain is so bad I can’t sleep on my right side anymore and I’ve started getting dry skin on both my breasts along with a small red patch. My right breast also feels heavier and I have a pulling sensation in it along with, what feels like, skin thickness.

Im not sure if I am over worrying but im concerned the lump has grown and is causing me extreme pain. I’m not sure if benign lumps can cause this much pain.

Ive contacted my GP who seems to think it’s not serious but wasn’t able to feel the lump due to having a phone appointment. However, they did refer me back to clinic for some pain relief but I’m concerned, due to COVID, it’s going to be a while until something happens and I’m constantly worried and getting severe anxiety of this.

Thank you for any advice :)

  • Hello ldx,

I see from your post that you are worried about some symptoms you have.  It's good that you've been referred for pain relief so hopefully you won't have to wait too long. When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers on an online forum, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. Anxiety UK has some useful information if you're finding things a bit overwhelming and if any of your symptoms change you should get back in contact with your GP.

    I hope this helps,
