Urgent referral has left me petrified.

Hello all,I am new to this forum  I am a 63 year old woman and am currently  running very scared. I had a phone conversation with my GP at 1.45 on Tuesday and at 2.30 I  was in the surgery for a face to face appointment with the same Dr.After examining me she told me I needed an urgent appointment with a urologist.I now have an appointment with a consultant for early next week.

The only real symptom I have is very intermitent  blood spots on the toilet seat when I stand after weeing. The GP found blood in my urine and also protein  There is no infection,no pain and  I feel quite well,

I am trying to stop myself consulting Dr Google but I know that this is either something trivial (No idea what though in the absence of infection)Or something pretty serious.

I don`t know what I want from forum members, but I do feel better for putting it down in writing.

  • Hello DottyLotty

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so frought following your appointment with the GP earlier this week.

We know that lots of our members here have, or have been tempted, to ask Dr Google for a consult in the past. Unfortunately Dr Google can be notoriously unreliable so do try to avoid looking on line for answers and it will only make you feel more anxious.

It can feel scary when appointments happen so quickly but try to keep in mind that hospital services aren't running at typical timescales at the moment and whilst somethings are delayed, other patients are finding that their appointments are seen more quickly. Try to focus on the positive that you wlil be seen sooner and you're not having to wait.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses for some support and advice before your appointment next week then you're welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on next week.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, it could chronic kidney disease which I see alot of patients with ( I'm a nurse ) especially as there is protein.

On a personal note I had blood in my urine last year so off I went for a kidney ultrasound, camera in my bladder n nothing abnormal was found.

    There's lots of reasons.

Bladder cancer is much much more likely in men, smokers or those who have worked with certain chemicals.

I hope this helps a little
