Mother found a lump in Breast

Hi everyone. I hope your all doing well!! Just after some advice. I'm a carer for my disabled Mum, she's 59. She found a lump in her breast yesterday, it appears to have come up almost overnight, with a bruise also. She's called the GP today who thinks it maybe related to her dog jumping up at her (she bruises really easily anyway). The GP has told her to monitor it for two weeks and if it changes to cal then back. Is this normal or is it because of the current pandemic?? It's a hard lump on the middle with soft round the edges, feels attached but moveable if that makes sense. No puckering or discharge. No changes other than the bruise and she has a similar bruise on the other side but not lump. I suffer with mental health so I'm freaking out expecting the worst.

sorry to babble on.

Thanks.

  • Hi Dieseldog,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's quite common for this to happen - often doctors will ask for monitoring of something and to return if there's no change or if things have got worse at all. As it's only been noticed recently, it may go away on its own within that time. If not, you can always call the doctor back.

I hope this helps a little.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi, I thought I'd update with something positive. We went today to the breast institute. They were fantastic! Mum got an assessment within 10 days of referral from her GP. Assessment, followed by Mammogram followed to Ultrasound. Within one hour she had the all clear! It turned out to be fat necrosis caused by our dog jumping up onto her!! The assesmejt said it's possibly fat necrosis or "could be something to worry about" , at which point my blood pressure shot up. But they did the mammogram and ultrasound. The ultrasound doctor said looks exactly like fat necrosis (she also checked a small lump near her lymph node that turned out to be a lipoma!).

It all feels a bit surreal now, I nearly passed out when I got home and it wasn't even me who was going through it! But that was it, she's been discharged! My advice to anyone with a lump over 50 is try not to worry , the hospital was great!

Thanks for your help on here.
