Found a lump under nipple

When I was a young teenager, around 13-14, I found a lump under my right nipple. I was scared and embarrassed so I didn't tell anyone about it for over a year. Eventually I went to the doctors and they weren't worried at all. This lump has never gone and I know this from checking my breasts daily! 2 weeks ago I was checking my breasts when I noticed my right nipple felt different. It felt like there was a small pea sized lump attached to the tissue under my nipple. It's not painful or tender in any way, and I have no other symptoms either.

I'm about to turn 24 now and I honestly feel too scared to go to the doctors. I'm absolutely terrified of receiving bad news. I don't have support around me.

  • Hey!

Im 16 and I have the same thing, mine feels the width of a 10 pence coin and i'm having a blood like discharge. I went to the doctors and i've been referred for an appointment at the hospital but it's been cancelled until July. I'm so nervous.

Id advise you ring the doctors, they're taking over the phone appointments at the minute I believe and will only call you in if it's deemed necessary. I hope everything works out for you!

    Please keep us updated x

  • I'm so sorry that you're experiencing the same thing :( It's terrible that your appointment has been put back until July too - hopefully that means they're not too worried.

I went to the doctors to get checked out today. They said my right breast where the lump is, is generally more lumpy than the left (which I've always known). The dr also said she could feel it and it's pea sized. It can be moved side to side but seems like it's attached to my breast tissue. She's referred me to the breast clinic for an ultrasound next Thursday (14th May) - fingers crossed they don't rearrange!

Keep me updated with yours xx

  • I'm glad you got it checked out! I hope your appointment isn't moved either!

I rang my GP becomes my symptoms have gotten worse and it seems the lump has grown so they're seeing if my appointment can be any sooner to get it checked, hopefully nothing too serious.

Fingers crossed your appointment goes well<3

  • I'm really angry for you on your behalf! If your symptoms have worsened you should get an urgent appointment. Keep pushing it until they do give you one, they shouldn't be dismissing it due to your age. I totally understand the pandemic is impacting a lot of services, but covid19 isn't the only health problem out there, people still need access to appointments etc.

I hope you have a good support network around you too. I remember being 14 or so and finding a lump and it was the most terrifying ordeal ever. So much that I didn't even tell anyone for a year!

  • Hey. So I had my appointment at the breast climic this morning and apparently the lump is nothing to worry about! It's just a Fibroadenoma and mine is really small, smooth and mobile apparently - super relieved.

How are you getting on? A friend of mine had similar symptoms to you and won't scan her until June, despite her being 27. She has decided to go private for a scan and has managed to get one for next week. It could be worth looking into if you're worried?
