Enlarged Thyroid

I found your forum discussing thyroid issues. Back in January I noticed my neck felt lumpy and after visiting the drs he referred me to an endocrinologist consultant for further investigation. The consultant looked down my throat with a camera and decided to follow up with a scan. This was booked for mid February but with the COVID-19 outbreak was understandably cancelled. Two months later I have started to struggle with swallowing, my neck glands are swollen too and I have a constant cough with a restricted feeling on my trachea. I also have a discomforting ache going up to my ears, especially at night. The nights are worse. I don't want to burden my GP or NHS by chasing this up but feeling a little uneasy and unwell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Mandi-Lou,

I honestly think you need to get back onto all your doctors as a matter of the utmost urgency.

You may be seriously ill and every day that passes is a day lost for earlier intervention.

It may not be cancer -  but don't shy away from the fact that it might be cancer. We all know that "the sooner they catch it the better are your chances of a cure."

I endured a delay of six weeks... and I regret that.

You have a right to be "Red Flagged" for urgent diagnostic tests/scans/further endoscopy, under the NHS.

Ring your doctor's today and demand an immediate appointment and get urgent treatment.

This should happen despite the Covid-19 emergency.  Please act without delay and don't worry about being "a burden" etc.

  • Thank you for your honest words Chris. I will move forward with this now and hopefully update as and when I have more information. I do hope you are now receiving the treatment you need. With kindest regards.
