Dimple in breast (for 8 months) & just discovered lump

So I noticed a dimple in my breast months and months ago. Just noticed a large lump and got a GP apt Monday. Im so cross with myself for assuming the dimple was just due to being 2 stone overweight and getting older (im 38).  If it was cancer would I not be quite ill by now given how long ive left it? Praying someone will say it could be something else not sinister? Im so anxious and upset. No family history of cancer.

  • Has anyone had any thing similar? Im so scared

    Hi Stephie,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about the lump that you’ve found, but I am glad to hear that you have an appointment with your GP on Monday.

Unfortunately, I cannot give you good news about this, as it could possibly be something untoward. Having said this, it could also be nothing serious.

Most people who have breast cancer do not feel sore or ill. There are a number of different types of breast cancer. Some grow more aggressively than others. Some respond to hormones whilst others don’t. When people are diagnosed with cancer, this will be graded from 1-3 with 1 being the least aggressive.

A lump doesn’t always have to be cancerous. Some people have naturally lumpy breasts, but their lumps are benign. Other lumps turn out to be benign cysts.

Whatever this is, you are just as well to get it checked out. If your GP has any suspicions, you will be referred to a breast clinic for tests. These are as much to rule out cancer, as they are to diagnose them. Only 1 person in 8 turns out to have cancer, so the odds are still good for you.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
