Lump in breast: telephone appointment with the breast clinic

I found a lump 10 days ago and went to see my GP he referred me to the breast clinic but instead of getting an appointment to go to the clinic they are giving me a telephone appointment in 2 days time. I dont understand how I will find out if the lump is cancer or not over the phone. Has anyone else had this since covid19 and can they tell me what happened after the call did they get an appointment at the clinic. Thanks in advance

  • Hello Adina,

A warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you are having to have a telephone appointment because of the coronavirus situation. I hope it goes well for you I can understand why this is a bit unsettling for you to have an appointment over the phone rather than in person but I am sure you will be in good hands and I hope that you will be able to see someone soon if need be.

I hope that you will hear from others who have had a similar experience recently. To increase your chances of others seeing your message and getting a reply, I have edited your title slightly to include the words 'telephone appointment'.

I hope your phone call goes well. If you felt the need to talk things through with one of our nurses, feel free to ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks for your reply, I have had my telephone appointment and it was a mistake it should have been in the clinic so I have an appointment in person now just means longer to wait but at least I am getting seen now

  • Oh that's good news Adina that you are going to be seen in person. I am keeping everything tightly crossed for you!

  • That's great news about your appointment.

I have my breast appointment on Tuesday after finding lump on outer right breast. It's become painful and both breasts and under my arms have pins and needles and a feeling of fullness. Like everyone else in this situation, I feel like I am awaiting a death sentence. I had a precancerous polyp in my colon removed last February and have felt pretty rubbish since then so stupid brain is thinking they're related and I am riddled with cancer.

hopefully your appointment won't be too long... I kept phoning the hospital. They received the referral on Wednesday morning and phoned me with the appointment on Friday x
